Hackenberg took 21 reps with the first-team offense on Monday, his most so far in training camp, the New York Post reports. Coach Todd Bowles suggested he could continue to see increased opportunities with the first team moving forward. "It's possible," said Bowles. "It's the second week of camp. We'll rotate them and evaluate them as we see fit."
EDGE Analysis
Bowles has yet to determine who will start the team's preseason opener Saturday against the Titans. Even if Hackenberg doesn't earn the nod, it sounds as though a quarterback competition could be brewing between the 22-year-old Hackenberg and veteran Josh McCown. McCown likely holds the edge for the starting gig at this point, but Hackenberg may be gaining ground. Unfortunately, his inability to break the huddle correctly, per Sports Illustrated's Tim Rohan, forced Hackenberg to leave practice briefly and casts a little shade on an otherwise positive development for the young signal-caller.

Hackenberg has gotten reps with the first-team offense of late, but Josh McCown continues to get more as the two battle for the starting quarterback job, NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCown is widely favored to win the job, but the Jets are going to give Hackenberg, and to a lesser extent Bryce Petty, every opportunity to supplant the veteran. Hackenberg likely has more upside given McCown's history in the league, though he's also much more likely to make costly mistakes.

Hackenberg performed better than anticipated during minicamp, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hackenberg is reportedly ahead of Bryce Petty for the Jets' No. 2 quarterback job, but the second-year pro could be closing the gap on projected starter Josh McCown some. According to the report, the 37-year-old McCown underwhelmed during minicamp, which made the timing of Hackenberg's improvement all the better. However, with training camp and the preseason still ahead, Hackenberg will have to sustain his challenge to unseat the veteran.

Hackenberg will compete with Bryce Petty and Josh McCown during training camp for the starting quarterback job, ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hackenberg did not take a single snap last season despite the Jets' significant struggles under center, and while McCown is certainly the front-runner given his experience in the league, it's not out of the question that Hackenberg could beat the veteran out. Either way, the Jets' passing attack isn't expected to be prolific this season, so even if Hackenberg wins the job, he's unlikely to be a strong fantasy option.

The Jets hope Hackenberg will beat out Josh McCown and Bryce Petty (shoulder) in a competition for the starting job, the NY Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hackenberg will still have to earn the job with his performance in training camp and the preseason, but it does makes sense that a rebuilding team would be rooting for its 22-year-old quarterback to beat out the 25-year-old Petty and 37-year-old McCown. Also working in his favor, Hackenberg was selected in the second round of last year's draft, whereas Petty was a fourth-round selection in 2015 and McCown was signed to a modest one-year contract. Given the general direction of the organization, Hackenberg could be the Week 1 starter even if McCown or Petty looks a little bit better during camp. McCown is still the best bet to earn the Week 1 starting job, though he's unlikely to hold it throughout the year.

The Jets believe Hackenberg has a higher ceiling than Bryce Petty (shoulder), the NY Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The recent signing of Josh McCown puts another obstacle in Hackenberg's path, following a rookie season in which the second-round draft pick didn't attempt any passes even though the Jets' quarterback corps was decimated by injuries. While Hackenberg's struggles in practice kept him behind Petty on the depth chart, the Jets apparently still believe the former has a higher long-term ceiling than the latter. Hackenberg may well be headed for another season as the No. 3 quarterback, but that doesn't mean he won't have a shot to compete with McCown and Petty for the starting job in training camp. It sounds as if Hackenberg would be a long shot in such a competition, unless he is drastically improved from what the Jets saw in practice last year.

Hackenberg may be a long shot to play in 2017 after the Jets signed veteran quarterback Josh McCown on Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Jets' QB corps endured ineffectiveness or injuries last season, with all of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith (torn ACL), and Bryce Petty (shoulder) missing time due to a variety of concerns. Despite all that, Hackenberg wasn't active once, but with Fitzpatrick and Smith out of the picture, he and Petty were the only signal-callers on the roster until management opted to bring McCown into the fold. McCown can be considered a stop-gap option as Petty and Hackenberg develop, but the veteran is a good bet to add to his cluttered medical chart as the 2017 campaign wears on. If McCown yields the top job at some point, Petty would likely be given the first shot to fill in after making four starts (among six appearances) in 2016. There's also the possibility that the Jets draft a quarterback for the third consecutive offseason, thereby throwing another hat into the ring. Consequently, Hackenberg appears set for regular healthy scratches for the second straight year.

EDGE Analysis
Fellow quarterbacks Bryce Petty and Ryan Fitzpatrick are both healthy, so Hackenberg was included among the seven players who will not be active for Saturday's contest.

According to head coach Todd Bowles, Hackenberg will not play unless current starter Bryce Petty gets hurt, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
If Petty were to get hurt, veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick would become the Jets' starter with Hackenberg presumably becoming the team's backup. Such a prospect makes Hackenberg's chances of becoming the starter at any point this season quite low, making him a non-factor in most fantasy formats.

With Hackenberg inactive, Ryan Fitzpatrick is in uniform Sunday, but he'll serve as the Jets' No. 2 QB behind Week 10 starter Bryce Petty.
