Williams returned a kickoff 101 yards for his first NFL touchdown in Sunday's 55-14 loss to the Packers. The touchdown return was window dressing on an otherwise ineffectual performance for Williams, who averaged a meager 20.7 yards on the nine other kickoffs he fielded. In addition, Williams' first foray into Chicago's offensive game plan proved to be a disaster, as he was dropped for an eight-yard loss on an attempted reverse.

Williams (hamstring) was waived by the Bears on Saturday, ESPN.com's Michael C. Wright reports. Williams looked to be positioned well to claim returning duties for the Bears in the early part of training camp, but a hamstring injury suffered in the first preseason game ultimately proved to be his downfall. Veteran Micheal Spurlock is expected to open the season as the Bears' top option for kickoff and punt returns.

Williams (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, ESPNChicago.com reports. Coach Marc Trestman didn't indicate whether or not Williams would be available for Thursday's exhibition finale vs. the Browns. If he's again scratched due to the tight hamstring, his chances of claiming kick returning duties for the Bears for the start of the regular season could take a massive hit.

Williams was a late scratch from Friday's preseason game with a tight hamstring, ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson reports. Williams returned to practice this week after he missed most of the previous two weeks with the hamstring injury, but the issue apparently resurfaced in untimely fashion. He was once in prime position to claim returning duties for the Bears to open the regular season, but unless Williams returns to full health and proves effective in the team's final exhibition, he could end up being cut.

Williams (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, ESPNChicago.com's Michael C. Wright reports. Williams had been sidelined for over a week after suffering a hamstring injury during the Bears' preseason opener. Prior to missing time, the CFL import had been enjoying a respectable camp as both a receiver and a returner, but it's in the latter area where he'll need to create greater separation from the competition. The Bears still have all of Michael Ford, Darius Reynaud, Micheal Spurlock and Armanti Edwards around to challenge Williams for reps in the return game.

Williams, who caught two passes for 78 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason opener vs. the Eagles, ended up exiting the game early due to a hamstring injury, ESPNChicago.com reports. Williams suffered the injury while hauling in a 73-yard touchdown pass from Jimmy Clausen, marking the Bears' biggest play of the night. Considered the favorite to replace the departed Devin Hester in the return game, Williams has been better than anticipated as a receiver, putting him on sturdy ground to claim a roster spot if the hamstring injury doesn't prove too severe.
