Thompson is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports. Thompson received his first touches of the season in Weeks 15 and 16, accumulating three carries for 12 yards, six receptions (on seven targets) for 27 yards, and one touchdown grab. In his place, Roy Helu will return as Washington's third-down back.

Thompson had three carries for 12 rushing yards and three catches on four targets for 22 receiving yards and a touchdown during Sunday's loss to the Giants. Thompson saw increased playing time thanks to Roy Helu's absence, and head coach Jay Gruden said he expects to get Thompson a few touches each game through the end of the season. Alfred Morris remains the clear No. 1 back in Washington, but Thompson could have an impact on passing downs, as Morris remains fairly limited in the passing game.

Head coach Jay Gruden said Friday that Thompson could see time at running back and kickoff returner over the last three weeks of the season. "Come gameday, we're excited to see what he can do," Gruden said. With Roy Helu (toe) out this week, Thompson could get a few looks in third-down packages, but right now there is no reason to rush out and grab Thompson in most leagues. A healthy Alfred Morris will continue to get most of the work.

Thompson has been added to Washington's active roster, the team's official site reports. The addition of Thompson gives the team some added running back this week in the event that Roy Helu is unable to play on Sunday against the Giants.

Thompson has reportedly been released by the Redskins, csnwashington.com reports. The report adds that Evan Royster and Lache Seastrunk were also cut by the team, with Silas Redd thus apparently in line to stick in a reserve RB capacity.

Thompson (ankle) will play in Thursday's preseason finale, the Washington Post reports. Thompson was a late scratch from Saturday's most recent preseason game after testing his ankle in warm-ups and deciding not to play. The second-year running back has missed Washington's past two exhibition outings, putting his roster spot in a bit of question. With final cuts coming soon, expect the Redskins to take a good look at a healthy Thompson during Thursday's contest.

Thompson (ankle) will try to practice in a limited capacity Wednesday, the Washington Post reports. Thompson has missed over a week now with a low ankle sprain that cost him Washington's most recent preseason game Monday. Considering his roster spot's relative uncertainty, Thompson hopes a return to practice and perhaps the Redskins' final exhibition outing can cement his position for the upcoming season.

Thompson, who missed Sunday's practice with a low ankle sprain, is expected to be out five or six days, The Washington Post reports. Thompson has struggled to remain healthy since his college days and will now be sidelined for the majority of practices this week. However, with the Redskins' next preseason game scheduled for Aug. 18, Thompson may have an outside chance of being able to play. Nonetheless, his injuries can't help his push to earn Washington's No. 3 running back position, especially with rookie Lache Seastrunk going for 63 yards on 12 carries in Thursday's preseason opener.
