Thompson suffered a back sprain in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Jets, though he was able to return. He finished with five carries for 12 yards and caught six passes on 10 targets for 26 receiving yards in the 34-20 loss.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson was expected to get more playing time Sunday after Matt Jones was ruled out with a sprained toe, but Alfred Morris predictably got more carries after Thompson left with his injury. Thompson and Morris finished with 11 and 12 total touches, respectively, though neither was able to do much against a very good Jets defense. Jones' injury isn't expected to keep him out for long, which means the three could very well share touches in Week 7 against the Bucs, limiting all of their fantasy upsides.

Thompson is questionable to return to Sunday's game at the Jets, after landing hard on his back, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson injured his back on an attempted catch in the first quarter, which is a situation to monitor since he fractured a few vertebrae during his time at Florida State. With Matt Jones (toe) sidelined, Alfred Morris and fullback Darrel Young are the sole healthy backs in Washington.

Thompson (shoulder) is active Sunday against the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
With Matt Jones ruled out with his toe injury, Thompson figures to get many more snaps Sunday, though he'll still have to share reps with Alfred Morris. The increased playing time is a plus, though they'll go up against one of the better run-stopping defenses in the league.

Thompson is expected to get a majority of the backfield touches Sunday against the Jets, with Matt Jones unlikely to play due to his toe injury, according to Britt McHenry of ESPN.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson and Alfred Morris will share the carries, but McHenry notes that Thompson is likely to get the bigger workload. While the increase in touches is certainly promising, the Jets' defense has been excellent this season and welcome back defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson on Sunday after his suspension.

Thompson gained 15 yards on just three carries, but caught 6-of-7 targets for 33 yards in Sunday's overtime loss to Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson demonstrated his receiving chops out of the backfield while Matt Jones and Alfred Morris dominated the rushing workload. It's possible Thompson sees more work on the ground in the future after Morris and Jones flailed around for a combined 35 yards on 19 carries, but predicting the workload distribution for Washington's three-headed running back platoon is almost impossible at the moment.

Thompson had a season high six carries for 53 yards and two catches for 24 yards in Sunday's win against the Eagles. His longest rush went for 42 yards.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson appears to have earned the trust of the coaching staff. He will likely remain behind Alfred Morris and Matt Jones but will receive a few touches each week.

Thompson caught eight passes for 57 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets, adding two carries for 29 yards, in Thursday's 32-21 loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
With the Redskins trailing by multiple scores for most of the game, Thompson surprisingly led the team's running back with 39 snaps, compared to 26 for starter Matt Jones and just 12 for Alfred Morris, according to Pro Football Focus. Jones seems to have overtaken Morris as the lead back, but Thompson is still the top option for obvious passing-downs, with Thursday's performance further solidifying his role.

Thompson did not have a carry and secured his only target for 10 yards in Sunday's 24-10 victory over the Rams.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson was replaced by Rashad Ross on kickoff returns and with rookie Matt Jones' breakout afternoon and Alfred Morris also providing solid production, did not carry the ball. Thompson was already firmly behind Jones and Morris on the running back depth chart, and it will clearly take an injury for that order to be altered. It also remains to be seen if Thompson will be reinstated as the primary kickoff returner next week.

Thompson rushed for 11 yards on three carries and returned one kickoff for 36 yards in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Dolphins.
EDGE Analysis
Despite a strong preseason in which he totaled 110 yards from scrimmage, Thompson opened the season behind rookie Matt Jones in the backfield pecking order, but managed to muster some moderate production in his limited opportunities. The third-year pro also turned in a solid performance in his role as the primary kickoff returner, producing a thirty-six yard run back in the fourth quarter that set up the Redskins in good field position following Jarvis Landry's go-ahead punt return. Thompson is expected to continue to receive some occasional opportunities from scrimmage in addition to his special teams duties over the course of the season. .

Thompson is hoping to earn a role in the Washington backfield, the Redskins' official website reports.
Alfred Morris is still the lead back, and third-round draft pick Matt Jones is the top candidate to serve as the primary backup. A third-down role would seem to offer Thompson his best shot to contribute, but he'll have to compete with Jones and and Silas Redd for that job. Just staying on the roster may be Thompson's real battle.
