The Raiders are slated to release Hoyer, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hoyer appeared in three games (including one start) with the Raiders during the 2023 regular season, en route to completing 23 of 42 passing attempts for 231 yards and two interceptions. With a new GM (Tom Telesco) on board in 2024, Las Vegas will move on from the 38-year-old signal-caller, who now represents an option for teams looking for a veteran NFL backup with ample starting experience.

Hoyer completed 23 of 42 pass attempts for 231 yards across three contests with the Raiders in 2023, but he didn't see any game action after rookie Aidan O'Connell secured the full-time starting job Week 9.
EDGE Analysis
Hoyer threw a pair of interceptions Week 7 against the Bears in what turned out to be his final on-field performance of the season, which ultimately allowed the aforementioned O'Connell to prove himself worthy of a roster spot moving forward. Although a $2.6 million dead cap hit would accompany Hoyer's potential release this offseason, it'd be surprising for the Raiders not to move on from the 38-year-old signal caller, especially given former coach Josh McDaniels' and former general manager Dave Ziegler's departure from the organization. At this stage in his career, retirement isn't off the table for Hoyer, either.

Hoyer is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
While Hoyer is listed as inactive Sunday, the Raiders are slated to start Aidan O'Connell at quarterback in Week 9 in place of Jimmy Garoppolo, who is the team's No. 2 signal caller versus New York.

Hoyer is inactive for Monday night's game against the Lions.
EDGE Analysis
Hoyer drew the start in the Raiders' Week 7 loss to the Bears, but with Jimmy Garoppolo (back) having returned to the lineup, Hoyer has been deemed inactive Monday. As a result, Aidan O'Connell is slated to serve as the team's No. 2 QB versus Detroit.

Hoyer completed 17 of 32 passes for 129 yards and two interceptions in Sunday's 30-12 loss to the Bears.
EDGE Analysis
Getting the start with Jimmy Garoppolo (back) inactive, Hoyer struggled to move the ball, and the Raiders generated only two field goals while the veteran QB was under center. He got replaced by Aidan O'Connell late in the game after throwing a pick-six, and per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the switch wasn't the result of an injury to Hoyer but simply a product of the lopsided score. Garoppolo is expected back in Week 8 against the Lions, but Hoyer might not even dress as the No. 2 quarterback after this dismal performance.

Hoyer is in line to start Sunday's game against the Bears in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo (back), sources tell Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
EDGE Analysis
Head coach Josh McDaniels never officially confirmed a Week 7 starting quarterback after Garoppolo was ruled out for the game following Friday's practice, but Hoyer looks like he'll get his first start of the season after rookie Aidan O'Connell previously drew the assignment when Garoppolo was sidelined for a Week 4 loss to the Chargers due to a concussion. Hoyer was active as the No. 2 quarterback for this past Sunday's game against the Patriots and stepped in capably when Garoppolo exited the contest in the second half. He proved to be a competent game manager as the Raiders finished out the 21-17 win, completing six of 10 pass attempts for 102 yards while committing no turnovers. Adam Schefter of ESPN relays that Garoppolo is expected to return to the lineup for the Raiders' Week 8 game against the Lions, so Hoyer's run atop the depth chart will likely last just one contest.

While the Raiders have yet to confirm whether Hoyer or Aidan O'Connell will start Sunday's game against the Bears in place of Jimmy Garoppolo (back), per Rachel Gossen of the team's official site, Dianna Russini of The Athletic relays that Hoyer is expected to draw the assignment.
EDGE Analysis
Though O'Connell drew the start when Garoppolo was sidelined Week 4 due to a concussion, it was Hoyer who stepped in for Garoppolo after he exited this past Sunday's win over the Patriots. This time around, it appears as though the Raiders will go with the more experienced option in Hoyer, and assuming that's confirmed, the veteran signal-caller will represent a lineup option for those who roster Garoppolo or are otherwise scrambling for a QB in Week 7.

Either Hoyer or Aidan O'Connell will start Sunday against the Bears, as Jimmy Garoppolo (back) was ruled out Friday.
EDGE Analysis
O'Connell got the starting nod when Garoppolo missed Week 4 due to a concussion, but Hoyer has been working as Garoppolo's primary backup, and the veteran came on in relief after Garoppolo hurt his back Week 6. Coach Josh McDaniels said both available quarterbacks have enjoyed a strong week of practice, but he has yet to name a starter for Sunday's battle of backup quarterbacks against a Bears team that's expected to deploy Tyson Bagent under center with Justin Fields (thumb) unavailable.

Hoyer stepped in for injured starter Jimmy Garoppolo (back) against the Patriots on Sunday, completing six of 10 pass attempts for 102 yards with no touchdowns or turnovers in the 21-17 win.
EDGE Analysis
Garoppolo went down awkwardly after a pass attempt late in the second quarter favoring his back. The oft-injured quarterback did not return after halftime, leaving Hoyer to finish off the narrow victory over New England. The severity of Garoppolo's injury likely will be revealed in the coming days after the quarterback was taken to a local hospital to have his back examined. Hoyer could remain the No. 2 option even if the Raiders' starter can't suit up for the team's next game, as was the case Week 4 when rookie Aidan O'Connell was elevated from the practice squad to start over the veteran. Both Hoyer and O'Connell would be risky fantasy plays should either be asked to start against Chicago in Week 7.

Hoyer is set to remain the Raiders' No. 2 quarterback Sunday against the Chargers with rookie Aidan O'Connell expected to start the team's Week 4 matchup in place of Jimmy Garoppolo (concussion), Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
With 77 appearances and 40 starts on his NFL resume, the 37-year-old Hoyer brings far more experience to the table, but O'Connell -- a rookie fourth-round pick out of Purdue -- offers more upside at this stage of his career. Even though O'Connell had been a healthy inactive for the Raiders' first three games while Hoyer served as Garoppolo's backup, the 25-year-old signal-caller impressed in the preseason and will now get the chance to show that he can replicate that success in the regular season. O'Connell could still have a short leash if he struggles early on Sunday, however, so Hoyer may end up seeing action despite remaining in the No. 2 role.
