Brandon Jacobs (knee), NT Issac Sopoaga (knee) and Ted Ginn (ankle) participated in Wednesday's practice for the 49ers. Jacobs has yet to play this season, but is on track to return Sunday. Ginn's participation would suggest he had no significant setbacks in his return to the lineup last week. Sopoaga missed the 49ers' Week 4 contest, and his status is still up in the air for Sunday's game against the Bills.

Brandon Jacobs (knee) was reportedly running 60-yard dashes "full bore" in triple-degree weather at the 49ers' facility on Tuesday. Jacobs has pronounced himself "ready to play," and may immediately slot in as San Francisco's go-to guy on short-yardage downs. Through four weeks, the 49ers rank 22nd in the league in converting third downs into firsts, and Jacobs was successful on 17-of-24 chances on short-yardage run plays with the Giants last season. The San Francisco Chronicle calls that "a major reason why the 49ers signed him." Jacobs' return is a threat to Frank Gore's scoring potential.

Brandon Jacobs has pronounced himself fully recovered from his preseason knee injury. "I'm ready to play. It's nothing now, it's all gone now," Jacobs said. "There's a little kinks I've got to run out but I feel good. I feel good about my explosiveness, I've got fresh legs." Jacobs was being used as a short-yardage specialist before going down with the injury in mid-August.

Brandon Jacobs (knee) is inactive for Week 4 against the Jets. Ted Ginn (knee) is active and figures to immediately re-assume return duties, but the 49ers don't have their short-yardage specialist back. Frank Gore will continue to handle goal-line work. Also inactive for San Francisco: NT Isaac Sopoaga, QB Scott Tolzien, WR A.J. Jenkins, RB LaMichael James, OG Josh Looney, and TE/FB Gijon Robinson. Jacobs may return in Week 5.

Brandon Jacobs (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 4 against the Jets. His status for the game is completely uncertain despite returning to practice this week. Jacobs did not play in the 49ers' first three games. The Niners have given no indications about whether or not he'll return in Week 4.

Brandon Jacobs (knee) and Ted Ginn (ankle) participated in 49ers practice Wednesday. Both should be considered questionable for Week 4 as they work their way back from lingering injuries. Ginn should easily reassume return duties, but how Jacobs fits in is more uncertain. Kendall Hunter was doing good work as Frank Gore's change-of-pace backup until Sunday's loss.

49ers declared RB Brandon Jacobs, QB Scott Tolzien, WR A.J. Jenkins, RB LaMichael James, G Josh Looney, NT Ian Williams, and WR Ted Ginn inactive for Week 3 against the Vikings. Jacobs continues to nurse his way back from a knee injury. Ginn is also injured. Jenkins and James have and will continue to be healthy scratches.

Brandon Jacobs (knee) "appears doubtful" for Sunday's Week 3 game against the Vikings. Jacobs wasn't wearing pads at Wednesday's practice and is still rehabbing on a side field. His absence means Frank Gore will continue to soak up the goal-line work.

49ers declared RB Brandon Jacobs, WR Ted Ginn Jr., WR A.J. Jenkins, RB LaMichael James, G Joe Looney, TE Garrett Celek and NT Ian Williams inactive for Week 2 against the Lions. No surprises for the 49ers, who are without Jacobs and Ginn for the second straight week. It reflects poorly on rookies Jenkins and James that they can't crack the game-day 46 despite Jacobs and Ginn's absences. Kyle Williams will again fill in for Ginn on punt returns, while Kendall Hunter will operate as Frank Gore's change-of-pace backup.

Brandon Jacobs (knee) and Ted Ginn (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday's practice. Both players continued to rehab on the side of the field, and remain week-to-week. Kendall Hunter could see 8-10 carries for the second straight week behind Frank Gore.
