Early this month, it was reported that Seattle would use Browner as a defensive specialist who could cover bigger receivers and tight ends. However, it appears this plan was not worth holding its own roster spot. Considering it didn't work out in Seattle, it would be a bit of surprise if the struggling Browner finds a new home before the season kicks off.

Browner is pegged for a role in which he will be assigned specific tight ends or bigger receivers depending on the opponent, the Seattle Times reports.

At 32, Browner no longer has the skills to start at cornerback. It showed last year with the Saints when he led the league with 11 defensive holding penalties (nine accepted) and six personal fouls. He also was flagged three times for pass interference. The Seahawks, though, think they can use him strategically, capitalizing on his size (6-4, 220) against bigger receivers, after they struggled against tight ends last season.

The Seahawks have brought back Browner on a one-year contract with the team, ESPN.com reports.

In 16 games for the Saints last season, Browner -- who turns 32 in August -- notched 76 tackles and a pick, but was also was flagged for a staggering total 24 penalties in the span.

Browner set an NFL record for penalties in 2015, and things got so ugly by the end of the season that he was booed in pregame introductions before the home finale. From a fantasy standpoint, however, Browner was excellent, as his 76 tackles rank this among cornerbacks in the NFL. Browner is likely be back with the Saints in 2016 because he is still owed a significant amount of guaranteed money and showed flashes of being an asset when used properly (as he showed against Detroit's Calvin Johnson), but with the emergence of Delvin Breaux and potential return of Keenan Lewis, Browner may be hard-pressed to see the ample playing time that made him an IDP commodity this season.

Browner had eight tackles (all solo) in Sunday's win against the Giants.

EDGE Analysis

That Browner, a cornerback, finished second on the team in tackles tells owners all they need to know about the nature of Sunday's shootout in New Orleans. With Eli Manning throwing the ball all over the field, Browner had plenty of opportunities to make plays. Opposing quarterbacks have not shied away from attacking Browner's side of the field - which is one reason why he among the league leaders in penalties - but his physical play continues to make him a decent IDP option at defensive back.

Browner made six tackles (four solo) and recovered a fumble in Thursday's win against the Falcons.

EDGE Analysis

As expected, Browner's physical play has led to a number of penalties this season - he leads the league through six weeks - but that's inconsequential to most fantasy owners, as his physicality is also one of the reasons why he has averaged six tackles per game from his cornerback position. Browner may continue to rack up the penalties, but he remains a solid option at defensive back in IDP leagues because of his willingness to mix it up with opposing ball carriers.

Browner (leg), who went through warmups but did not play in Thursday's preseason finale, will likely be ready to play against the Cardinals in Week 1, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Browner suffered a leg injury in the Saints' first preseason game but has slowly been increasing his activity in practice the last week. With Keenan Lewis sidelined for four-to-six weeks after hip surgery, Browner is expected to be the Saints' top cornerback early in the season.

Browner (leg) remained out of practice on Tuesday, but he was on the sideline and dressed in a helmet and jersey for the first time since suffering a leg injury two weeks ago, reports Mike Triplett of ESPN.com. Browner was wearing a brace around his right knee/leg area. He suffered the injury in the Saints' preseason opener against the Ravens.

Browner, who was signed away from the Patriots this offseason, is expected to start at cornerback for the Saints, opposite Keenan Lewis. He has been injury prone during his career - missing 19 games over the past three season - but he is expected to provide the Saints' secondary with valuable size, physicality and experience. Playing alongside the well-respected cover corner Lewis, who opposing quarterbacks avoided much of last year, should also provide him plenty of opportunities. Assuming he's healthy for Week 1, Browner could be a solid option in IDP leagues.
