The Ravens released Rainey on Monday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rainey's release opens up a roster spot for the addition of offensive lineman Andrew Donnal, formerly of the Rams. Furthermore, it could be a sign that wide receiver Michael Campanaro is ready to return to his return-man role on special teams, in addition to Danny Woodhead (knee), who's been designated to return from IR and should return to the fold within a matter of weeks.

Rainey signed a contract with the Ravens on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
After signing Alex Collins off the practice squad earlier this season following Danny Woodhead's (hamstring) placement on injured reserve, the Ravens will add Rainey to their running back corps with Terrance West (calf) expected to at least miss Baltimore's Week 6 contest against the Bears, if not further games beyond that. Rainey, who attended training camp with the Ravens before being cut in September, has four seasons of NFL experience, splitting time with the Browns, Buccaneers and Giants and averaging 4.0 yards per carry for his career. The 30-year-old is also able to contribute as a pass catcher out of the backfield and as a kick returner, but it's expected that he'll be no better than third on the depth chart at running back behind Collins and Javorius Allen until West reenters the mix. Since Collins has shown promise as a runner and Allen is an adept receiver, it's not expected that Rainey will see many snaps on offense during his time with Baltimore.

Rainey was released by the Ravens on Friday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rainey signed with the Ravens in late-July for some added depth in the backfield after the team lost Kenneth Dixon to meniscus surgery. He was essentially competing for the No. 3 spot on the running back depth chart behind Terrance West and Danny Woodhead, but it's likely that spot will go to Javorius Allen. Rainey likely still has value for some NFL teams, as he boasts a fairly reliable track record with both health and production.

Rainey was signed by the Ravens on Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rainey's versatility and experience intrigues the Ravens, who just lost a key member of their backfield in Kenneth Dixon to season-ending meniscus surgery. Rainey has missed just two games throughout the past three seasons, most recently tallying 63 yards on 17 carries to go along with 20 catches for 153 yards on 25 targets with the Giants in 2016. Terrance West and Danny Woodhead jump to the top of the pecking order at running back for the Ravens with Dixon (knee) sidelined, while Rainey has a chance to beat out Javorius Allen and undrafted rookie Taquan Mizzell for the No. 3 spot.

Rainey caught a 13-yard pass off of two targets in Thursday's loss to Philadelphia.
EDGE Analysis
The catch was just Rainey's third touch since New York's Week 8 bye. Thursday was the veteran's first game with double-digit offensive snaps since the bye as he has settled into more of a special-teams role after looking like a potential scatback earlier in the year.

Rainey (calf) is active for Sunday's matchup against the Eagles, Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.TV reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rainey was limited in practice all week due to a calf injury, but it won't prevent him from suiting up and providing depth in the New York backfield Sunday. Rashad Jennings has taken back over as the lead back since his Week 6 return, but Rainey still logged 39 total offensive snaps in the two weeks prior to the Week 8 bye, in addition to his regular role on special teams. Though he'll be active and presumably have a complementary role to Jennings, it's a tough fantasy matchup given the fact that the Eagles have allowed just four rushing touchdowns this season.

Rainey (calf) is questionable to play Sunday against the Eagles.
EDGE Analysis
Rainey wasn't thought to be injured heading into the Giants' Week 8 bye, but he was limited in every practice this week and may become a game-time decision for Sundays divisional matchup. In such a scenario, look for Rashad Jennings, Orleans Darkwa and Paul Perkins to split the available work out of the backfield.

Rainey was limited during Wednesday's practice due to a calf injury, SNY.tv reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rainey's injury provides Rashad Jennings, Orleans Darkwa, and rookie Paul Perkins with additional reps out of the backfield, although Rainey's status for Sunday's matchup against the Eagles remains up in the air.

Rainey had six carries for 13 yards and two catches for 16 more Sunday against the Ravens.
EDGE Analysis
Rainey's getting work subbing in for Rashad Jennings and coming out of the backfield on passing downs. Rookie Paul Perkins looks quicker and more explosive than either veteran, but apparently his pass blocking is poor, given Rainey a chance to continue in this role.

Rainey had five carries for 22 yards and six catches for 52 more in Sunday night's loss to the Vikings.
EDGE Analysis
It was an ugly day for the offense as a whole, but Rainey was effective as a runner and a receiver. He'll maintain his third-down role for the foreseeable future with Shane Vereen out.
