It's hard to envision his role increasing moving forward, though, especially when considering he has now received just four carries on the season compared to 63 for Gurley. Ultimately, Cunningham appears to be just a handcuff for Gurley owners entering a Week 4 tilt against the Cardinals.

With Todd Gurley firmly atop the Rams' RB depth chart and being drafted in the first round of most fantasy drafts, Cunningham's mostly of note for those looking to insure Gurley, though given that he's caught 71 passes over the past two seasons, he already holds some deep league value in PPR formats. Meanwhile, with Tre Mason not currently in the team's backfield equation, 224-pound Malcolm Brown is having a strong preseason and could also emerge as a candidate to absorb his share of carries in the event of a Gurley injury.

Cunningham contributed 23 yards and a touchdown on four carries and added 20 yards on his sole reception in Saturday's 28-24 preseason victory over the Cowboys.

The backup tailback looked impressive while receiving the start in place of Todd Gurley, particularly on the Rams' second possession. Cunningham notched his 20-yard reception on that drive, and capped off the downfield march with a 14-yard touchdown run that served as the Rams' first points in their return to Los Angeles. The 26-year-old has proved serviceable over his first three campaigns as a rotational back, and figures to slot in a similar role in 2016 considering the ample workload that Gurley should command.
