Gibson suffered a minor hamstring injury during OTAs on Wednesday, Pete Hailey of NBC Sports Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
Head coach Ron Rivera used the word "slightly" to downplay the severity of Gibson's hamstring issue, so there's not yet any reason for significant worry about the possibility of the running back missing any portion of mandatory minicamp. Of course, considering the delicate nature of hamstring injuries, the Commanders will likely refrain from rushing Gibson back out on the field. In the meantime, rookie third-round pick Brian Robinson could benefit from increased reps with the first-team offense.

Coach Ron Rivera said Thursday he hopes Gibson and rookie third-round pick Brian Robinson will operate as a "potential 1-2 punch," Grant Paulsen of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rivera likened the new backfield tandem of Gibson and Robinson to Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams, who operated as a formidable duo during his time as the Panthers' head coach. Gibson was already primed have his receiving upside limited by pass-catching complement J.D. McKissic, who opted to stick around in Washington, and it now looks like he isn't a complete lock to dominate the bulk of work between the tackles. While Gibson remains entrenched atop the depth chart, having rushed for 1,037 yards and seven touchdowns through 16 games last year, his fantasy outlook will take a notable hit if Rivera indeed deploys a three-headed backfield committee for the 2022 season.

Gibson rushed 21 times for 146 yards and a touchdown and brought in one of three targets for five yards in Washington's 22-7 win over the Giants on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The second-year back topped off the campaign with a spectacular showing, putting himself comfortably over the 1,000-yard mark in the process. Gibson was one of the few bright spots during a profoundly disappointing second half for Washington, as he gained 88 yards or more on the ground in three of the last six contests. If the Football Team upgrades at quarterback via free agency, trade or the draft, Gibson could be in line for a true breakout 2022 while operating in what would be a more balanced attack.

Gibson (hip) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Giants, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
It is possible Washington scales back his workload in a game without playoff implications, especially after Jaret Patterson's solid showing last week when Gibson was on the COVID list, but it's also possible the second-year pro simply returns to his usual dominance of the rushing workload. Whatever the case, Gibson will be out there this Sunday, presumably starting and working as the lead back in a matchup of disappointed division rivals. He's 109 rushing yards away from 1,000 on the year, and he needs one more TD to reach double digits for a second time in two seasons.

Gibson (hip) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gibson tended to a hip injury during Week 17 prep before Washington placed him on the reserve/COVID-19 list last Friday, resulting in his first absence of the campaign this past Sunday against the Eagles. He made his way back to the active roster Wednesday, but his practice reps continued to be capped by the hip issue. Gibson has managed to play through the pain this season, and Friday's injury report could pave the way for him to suit up in Week 18. Even if it doesn't, though, he should have his customary questionable designation heading into the weekend.

Gibson was a limited practice participant Wednesday due to a hip injury, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gibson has dealt with toe and hip injuries of late after playing through a shin stress fracture for most of the season, but his only absence of the campaign came in the Week 17 loss to Philadelphia after he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Jaret Patterson stepped up with Gibson out last Sunday, taking 17 touches for 98 yards and a touchdown while playing 62 percent of snaps on offense. After being activated from the list earlier Wednesday, Gibson tentatively appears on track to play Week 18 against the Giants, though he could cede more work to Patterson as the Football Team aims to preserve his health heading into the offseason.

Washington activated Gibson (hip) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Gibson can now return to team facilities and begin preparing for Washington's season finale Sunday against the Giants. Though he's overcome his bout with the virus, Gibson's lingering hip injury could still complicate his Week 18 availability, so his participation in practices Wednesday through Friday will need to be monitored closely. The Football Team also has rookie Jaret Patterson available, after he served as the lead back in the Week 17 loss to the Eagles while Gibson was out of the lineup.

Gibson (hip) remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles, per Field Yates of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
EDGE Analysis
Washington made multiple roster moves Saturday, but Gibson wasn't activated by the team in advance of Week 17 action. Until the running back, who is also dealing with a hip issue, clears the NFL's COVID protocols, Jaret Patterson is poised to serve as Washington's lead option on the ground, with Jonathan Williams also factoring into the team's backfield mix as well as Wendell Smallwood.

Washington placed Gibson (hip) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday.
EDGE Analysis
According to John Keim of ESPN.com, Gibson is vaccinated, which means he was placed on the list as a result of testing positive. He'll theoretically have a chance to play Sunday against the Eagles if he can test out of the protocol in rapid fashion, though the timing of his placement on the list makes that highly unlikely. With that in mind, Jaret Patterson could be in line to serve as Washington's lead option on the ground Week 17, with Jonathan Williams also factoring into the backfield mix.

Gibson (hip) wasn't present for Thursday's practice and is set to be listed as a non-participant on Washington's official report, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
After aggravating a turf toe injury, Gibson was viewed as a game-time decision leading up to last week's matchup with the Cowboys, but he proceeded to suit up and played just 35 percent of the offensive snaps -- his second-lowest share of the season -- in Washington's 56-14 loss. The blowout was believed to be the root cause of Gibson's limited workload, but the fact that he's being listed on the Week 17 injury report with a hip issue suggests that the new health concern either contributed to his light snap count or is something that cropped up during Wednesday's practice, when he was listed as limited. Gibson's absence from Thursday's workout isn't the most encouraging sign as Sunday's game against the Eagles approaches. Unless Gibson returns to the field Friday as a full participant, he'll likely carry a designation into the weekend.
