Cooper restricted his deal Saturday converting the majority of his $20 million base salary into a signing bonus while adding two additional void years, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move was made immediately following the team's acquisition of Deshaun Watson and his record-setting five-year, $230 million contract Friday. Cooper figures to be in a prime position to regain his form after a down season in which the Pro Bowl wideout compiled 68 receptions, 865 yards and eight touchdowns across 15 games.

The Browns acquired Cooper and a 2022 sixth-round pick from the Cowboys on Saturday in exchange for a 2022 fifth-round pick and a 2022 sixth-round pick, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The compensation might appear light considering the 27-year-old has played at a Pro Bowl level almost every year he's been healthy, but with Cooper due $20 million each of the next three seasons, the cap implications essentially forced the Cowboys to settle for a modest return. Now situated as the clear No. 1 wideout in a Cleveland offense that could soon lose Jarvis Landry, Cooper should be the primary target when the run-first Browns do opt to throw the ball.

The Cowboys plan to try to trade Cooper, but if no deal is reached, the wideout is likely to be released, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
EDGE Analysis
ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported Friday that Dallas is likely to part ways with Cooper by the start of the new league year. If the 27-year-old ends up being cut, the wideout would count $6 million against the Cowboys' salary cap in 2022 versus $22 million otherwise. Cooper is coming off a 2021 campaign in which he caught 68 passes (on 104 targets) for 865 yards and eight TDs in 15 games. If the Cowboys indeed part ways with Cooper, CeeDee Lamb would profile as the offense's top WR option, while the team could potentially elect to focus on re-signing Michael Gallup, who is bouncing back from a torn ACL.

The Cowboys could seriously consider releasing Cooper prior to the start of the new league year, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schefter quotes a league source as saying Dallas is "likely" to release Cooper, who will be owed a fully guaranteed $20 million March 20, the fifth day of the new league year. The news seems a likely indication that the Cowboys would listen to trade offers for the 27-year-old wideout, who was limited to 68 catches for 865 yards and eight scores through 15 appearances in 2021 but previously put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Releasing Cooper would free up $16 million for Dallas with just $6 million in dead cap, and position CeeDee Lamb to take over as the unquestioned No. 1 target in the passing game. If he does hit free agency, Cooper will undoubtedly have a plethora of interested suitors.

Cooper caught six of 10 targets for 64 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the 49ers in the wild-card round.
EDGE Analysis
He got the Cowboys on the board with a 20-yard TD catch in the second quarter, but it was the team's only points of the first half, putting them in a hole they couldn't climb out of despite a frantic fourth-quarter push. Cooper had a somewhat disappointing regular season despite seeing over 100 targets for the third straight campaign, managing 68 catches for 865 yards and eight TDs in 15 games -- his worst production yet since joining Dallas in 2019. The Cowboys could part ways with Cooper in the offseason without incurring a big dead cap hit, but most likely he'll return in 2022 and be a key part of a potent passing game with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

Cooper caught five of seven targets for 79 yards in Saturday's 51-26 win over the Eagles.
EDGE Analysis
Cooper led the Cowboys in targets, with his longest gain coming on a 27-yard reception. He also tied for Dallas' lead in catches, although Cedrick Wilson was more productive with his five grabs, going for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Despite the bevy of weapons in his team's offense impacting his weekly yardage this term, Cooper remains a significant receiving threat heading into the playoffs, particularly after scoring three times in his last five games of the regular season.

Cooper caught three of seven targets for 18 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-22 loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
It was a rough day for a lot of Cowboys, but Cooper was at least able to find his way into the end zone, catching a four-yard toss from Dak Prescott in the fourth quarter as Dallas staged a late rally that fell short. The score was Cooper's eighth of the season, tying his previous career high, so the veteran receiver will take aim at a new personal best in Week 18 against the Eagles.

Cooper had seven receptions (11 targets) for 85 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 56-14 win over the Football Team.
EDGE Analysis
Cooper bounced back in a big way after posting his worst stat line (two catches for eight yards) of the season last week against the Giants. Nearly every starter on Dallas' offense got to eat in this blowout win, so we can't assume the star wideout is truly back following a stretch of five games during which he averaged just 37.6 receiving yards per game. The Cowboys will take on Arizona next Sunday in a matchup with playoff seeding implications, so we will see if Cooper can build off of this strong showing.

Cooper secured two of five targets for eight yards in the Cowboys' 21-6 win over the Giants on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Cooper's second-half downturn hit a new low Sunday, with his yardage total serving as his sparsest yet in 2021 and the reception tally tying a season low as well. The veteran did score his first touchdown since Week 8 in last Sunday's win over Washington, but he's been at 51 yards or less in five consecutive games. Cooper's next opportunity to reverse course and deliver some timely dividends for fantasy managers in their playoff contests comes in a Week 16 rematch at home against Washington.

Cooper caught five passes for 51 yards and one touchdown on seven targets against Washington on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Although he saw fewer targets than CeeDee Lamb (10) and even Michael Gallup (nine), Cooper was Dallas' most effective pass catcher on a per-target basis Sunday. Quarterback Dak Prescott struggled in this game (22 of 39 for 211 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions), so Cooper's numbers look even more favorable in that light. The Cowboys go on the road to face the Giants in Week 15, which could be a viable matchup for Cooper to maintain his recent momentum.
