Shaheen (back) returned to the practice field Thursday, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shaheen missed several days of practice this week due to back soreness, but that no longer appears to be a concern for the third-year tight end. He'll return to camp, looking to secure a role as the backup to starter Trey Burton.

Shaheen (lower back) is not participating at practice Monday, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shaheen also missed Sunday's practice due to the issue, and it isn't clear if he's expected to face an extended absence. It's an ominous start to training camp as the 24-year-old attempts to put together a healthy season after missing 13 games across his first two years in the league.

Head coach Matt Nagy said Shaheen missed Sunday's practice with a sore lower back, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear how serious this back issue is for Shaheen. The 24-year-old wanted to focus on maintaining his health better this offseason after missing 10 games in 2018 with an ankle injury.

Shaheen has focused on maintaining his health this offseason, Hub Arkush of the Daily Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
After missing three games as a rookie, Shaheen sat out 10 additional contests last year due to an ankle injury. While he's enjoying a healthy offseason, he'll try to maintain his standing as the Bears' second-string tight end. A strong preseason could help him earn playing time as a receiving option, especially if starter Trey Burton's recovery from sports hernia surgery lingers. For now, though, it's unlikely that Shaheen will be much of a fantasy factor to start the season.

Shaheen lost seven pounds during the offseason, focusing on flexibility and core strength in an effort to avoid future injuries, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 2017 second-round pick has missed 13 games through two NFL seasons, dealing with foot, ankle, chest and head injuries. Shaheen played the final five weeks of last season and then replaced Trey Burton (sports hernia) as Chicago's top tight end for a playoff loss to Philadelphia, but the 24-year-old acknowledges that he wasn't in the best shape at the time, still working his way back to full strength after he spent the first 10 weeks of the campaign on injured reserve. Shaheen had a nice opportunity for regular first-team snaps with Burton recovering from surgery during the offseason program, but the Bears expect their starter to be healthy before the end of training camp, likely relegating Shaheen to a role that primarily focuses on blocking.

Shaheen caught five of six targets for 48 yards and one touchdown over six games.
EDGE Analysis
Shaheen suffered an ankle and foot sprain in August and it ended up costing him more than half the season. The 25-year-old saw an increased snap count in the wild-card loss to the Eagles -- Trey Burton (groin) was sidelined -- but had only three receptions for 13 yards. The 2017 second-round pick has yet to produce much offensively but will look to change that in year three as the No. 2 tight end behind Burton.

With Trey Burton (groin) inactive, Shaheen is a candidate to see added opportunities in the Bears offense in Sunday's wild-card game against the Eagles, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shaheen was limited to five catches on six targets for 48 yards and a TD in six games this season, but with Burton (who logged 54 catches and six TDs in 2018) out of the mix, Shaheen should see added looks Sunday. The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder has some red-zone potential thanks to his frame, while Ben Braunecker and Daniel Brown are also on hand to provide the Bears with tight end depth in Burton's absence.

Shaheen wasn't targeted in the Bears' victory over the Vikings, and he finished the campaign with five catches for 48 yards and a touchdown.
EDGE Analysis
Shaheen missed the first couple months of the season after landing on injured reserve with foot and ankle injuries. Upon his return, he did get a number of looks in the red zone, but otherwise, he wasn't an integral part of the Bears' passing attack. Signed through 2020 and still on an upward career arc, he'll likely be used primarily as a blocker and red-zone weapon while Trey Burton continues to vacuum up the majority of targets.

Shaheen caught one pass off of two targets for four yards during Sunday's 14-9 win over the 49ers.
EDGE Analysis
Sunday helped mark just the third time in his career that Shaheen caught a pass in back-to-back games. The Ashland product has not been what Chicago likely expected when he was drafted in the second round in 2017. Sideline for most of this season with a foot injury, Shaheen has fallen way behind fellow tight end Trey Burton and other young offensive weapons like Anthony Miller and Tarik Cohen. His regular season ends Sunday in a game with major playoff implications, a rematch with a Vikings team that held Shaheen catchless in his season debut in Week 11.

Shaheen caught two passes for 39 yards in the Bears' 24-17 victory over the Packers.
EDGE Analysis
With Chicago playing this one conservatively, Shaheen was just one of two Bears to catch a pass longer than 20 yards, and he was also second on the team in receiving yards. With just four targets over his last three games, he'll be a touchdown-dependent fantasy option down the stretch.
