Either way, it's a positive development for those who own Barton in fantasy leagues.

Barton turned things around after a couple of dud performances, helping the Nuggets to a victory. Barton's strength is his ability to cover a number of positions and this could be the case as the Nuggets look to win as many games as they can in an attempt to snatch the final playoff berth.

After an extended stretch of robust and well-rounded fantasy production -- most of it coming with him as a member of the starting five -- Barton has hit the skids a bit over the last four games, and his shot is largely to blame. He's averaging a modest 8.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists across 29.3 minutes during that span, while draining only 35.1 percent of his 9.3 attempts per contest, including 25.0 percent from three-point range. However, Barton is still averaging career highs for the season in virtually every category and has thrived in a second-unit role on countless occasions, so fantasy owners shouldn't read his current slump as anything more than temporary at this point.

Barton will shift back to a bench role for Sunday's matchup with the Kings, Harrison Wind of BSN Denver reports.

Barton picked up the spot start Friday in place of Wilson Chandler (hip), posting 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and one steal across 39 minutes. However, Chandler has since been cleared for a return and will immediately slot back in to the top unit, which sends Barton back to his typical bench role. Despite the demotion, Barton will still likely be looking at a 30-plus minute role off the bench, which keeps him relevant in the bulk of fantasy leagues.

Barton will replace Wilson Chandler (hip) in the starting unit. He has averaged 15.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists across 32.9 minutes as a starter this season, which are almost identical to his averages as a reserve.

Denver seemingly finally has its full complement of options available, but Barton is thriving as a dynamic option off the bench and is maintaining a high usage level.

Now that Paul Millsap has returned, Barton and Wilson Chandler will be duking it out for playing time. While Denver has elected to start Chandler at the wing, it doesn't favor Chandler's skill set and Barton should still see plenty of minutes at the three and four, splitting time between the first and second unit. The real loser here is probably Trey Lyles, who will be buried in the depth chart moving forward. You should expect both Barton and Chandler to see a slight reduction in production moving forward.
