Wesley Matthews successfully played out of the post during scrimmages on Friday.
"I've just been working on all aspects of my game," Matthews said. "I want to get better and part of that is getting down on the block." This is an interesting wrinkle for Matthews' game, and with a starting gig in hand on a team that wants to run this year, he could be a sneaky value pick in the late-middle rounds.

Wesley Matthews responded to comments made by coach Nate McMillan suggesting Brandon Roy was the starting shooting guard, saying "I'd be lying if I said I didn't see myself as a starter."
We'd be lying if we said we didn't see him as the starter, too. Nate McMillan isn't always known for doing the right thing with personnel and the like, but starting Roy would send his lineup into nightly flux. It makes much more sense to bring Roy off the bench where his minutes can fluctuate with his knee's health. Maybe Portland is giving Roy enough rope to hang himself with, but we're not adjusting our outlook for Matthews much, if at all. Matthews will provide good value as a mid-round pick in 8-cat leagues.

Wesley Matthews is healthy again after receiving a Platelet Rich Plasma injection in his ankle.
He had the procedure in May and wore a protective boot for six weeks before undergoing physical therapy. Matthews looked good in Sunday's exhibition game, scoring 30 points and hitting six 3-pointers. "I'm good, I'm healthy and I'm feeling as explosive and athletic as I've ever been," Matthews said. If Jamal Crawford is signed by the Blazers, it would hurt Matthews' fantasy potential, but that is far from a done deal.

Wesley Matthews and Lou Williams were late scratches to Saturday's exhibition dubbed the South Florida All-Star Classic.
There could be a million reasons for their absences, but with Matthews we'll specifically be watching his ankle whenever basketball resumes. That he missed the contest could suggest that he's playing it safe, or worse. Matthews underwent PRP therapy after playing on a torn ankle tendon all season, spending six weeks in a boot after the procedure. To our knowledge he has avoided surgery. He projects to be the starting shooting guard in Portland.

Blazers guard Wesley Matthews says his ankle feels much better after spending the summer getting treatment and wearing a boot.
Matthews says the difference in how he now feels is "night and day," and that he can feel his toes again. He could end up playing overseas if the lockout drags on.

Wesley Matthews (ankle) recently confirmed his interest in playing overseas if the lockout continues, adding that he feels good despite not being 100% healthy.
Matthews was a participant in Saturday's charity dodgeball tourney, the "Dodge Barrage," which also featured Deron Williams, Kyle Korver, and C.J. Miles.

Wesley Matthews is about 85% healthy, according to his agent, and he's willing to play overseas under the right conditions.
Matthews played through a torn ankle tendon last season but was advised against surgery, instead receiving platelet-rich plasma treatment and immobilizing his ankle for weeks. His agent is already looking into insurance policies in case the lockout extends into the season, but admitted that it might be challenging to find "a team in Europe in a good situation, with good money, and who's going to give him a NBA out."

Wesley Matthews reportedly tore a tendon in his right ankle back in January, which caused him to undergo PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapy and kept him in a walking boot for six weeks straight.
He looked severely hurt at times but still managed to play in all 82 games, and while he was a bit inconsistent, the results were pretty good for a guy who said he couldn't feel his foot for two months. He's still not 100 percent and he's hopeful that he'll avoid surgery, but he has a while to get healthy. When basketball resumes, don't let Brandon Roy's one good playoff game fool you -- Matthews is the player to own here.
