Wesley Matthews hit just 4-of-12 shots from the field (including a three) with two rebounds, one assist, and three steals in the Blazers' loss to the Kings on Thursday.
Matthews is getting criticized heavily for his play by fans, but beat writers are a bit (read: a bit) less forgiving, and the Blazers' road woes are likely symptomatic of a larger problem. Matthews is shooting well below his career norms, making him a buy-low target in that respect, but we'd like to see less panic out of Portland before recommending him.

Wesley Matthews hit 3-of-6 shots for six points, five rebounds and six assists in Wednesday's blowout win over the Bobcats.
Matthews had been in a shooting slump, but at least we can say he hit 50 percent of his shots tonight. Jamal Crawford is hurting his value and minutes, and blew up for 24 points in 21 minutes tonight, but Matthews still looks like a decent buy-low option right now.

Wes Matthews said "I just don't know" when asked about how he plans to break out of his shooting funk.
Matthews added, "honestly, I'm at a loss right now." His numbers are down this season in a big way, and he's shooting a career-low 40.9 percent from the floor. Matthews is still providing some value to his owners with 13.2 points, 1.1 steals and 1.8 treys per game, but that is not the production owners expected when investing a mid-round pick in him on draft day. Matthews hasn't scored more than 20 points in a game since January 10.

Wesley Matthews shook off Friday's lousy game to score 24 points in a win over the Cavaliers, making 8-of-17 FGs, 3-of-9 threes and 5-of-6 FTs.
Nate McMillan described Matthews as the team's "sniper," and he leads the team in 3-point accuracy (43 percent) and 3-pointers made (1.9 per game). His role is well defined now that Brandon Roy is gone, so expect his current numbers to continue all year.

A different player has led the Blazers in scoring during each of their first four games.
In order, they are LaMarcus Aldridge (25), Gerald Wallace (25), Wesley Matthews (25) and Jamal Crawford (23). They have one of the deepest teams in the league (though not their frontcourt), which is great for Blazers' fans but makes it hard for fantasy owners to know quite what to expect game to game. For example, witness Wallace's scoreless game and Matthews' fourth-quarter benching in favor of Nicolas Batum on Sunday.

Wesley Matthews tweaked his back slightly in Tuesday's game, but you couldn't tell on Thursday when he scored 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting (including five threes) with five rebounds, two assists, and one steal in the Blazers' 111-102 win over the Nuggets.
Matthews played a solid 39 minutes and along with Raymond Felton and Jamal Crawford, they are locked into productive roles while Nicolas Batum is more of a borderline fantasy asset right now. Keep Matthews in your lineup until further notice.

Wesley Matthews (back) briefly left Tuesday's game against the Kings, but returned and finished with eight points on 4-of-14 shooting (0-for-5 from deep) with five rebounds, two assists, and a block in 22 minutes.
With the way he ran back into the locker room it's hard to guess what was actually wrong, but it sounds like a minor tweak which is normal this time of the year. Owners should keep their ears to the ground, but keep trotting him out there.

Wesley Matthews hit just 4-of-14 shots, but three of them were 3-pointers, and he finished with 16 points, six rebounds, a steal and a block in the win.
The biggest eye-opener was that he played 40 minutes, while Jamal Crawford saw just 22 minutes of run tonight. Matthews is a must-own fantasy player and should remain in starting lineups.

Wesley Matthews had 15 points and three 3-pointers in Wednesday's loss to the Jazz.
Matthews started and should hold the shooting guard job down for most of the season, despite the presence of Jamal Crawford. He's not as must-own as he was before JC got there, but is still a nice SG to own this season.

Wesley Matthews scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting (including a three) with four rebounds, one assist, and two steals in 23 minutes.
Matthews had early Round 6 value on a per-game basis in 8-cat leagues last season, but when Jamal Crawford was signed we were admittedly concerned about the hit Matthews would take. If we're taking Nate McMillan at his word that he'll play Crawford as a backup PG and SF, too, then Matthews' value might not be at nearly as much risk. If Matthews falls beyond Round 7, it's time to pick him up.
