Gobert has been a bit inconsistent in the scoring column, but other than that, he's having a solid start to the year. Through nine appearances, the big man is averaging 11.3 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

Gobert closed with 21 points (9-11 FG, 3-3 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and one block over 32 minutes during Thursday's 135-119 win over the Bulls.

EDGE Analysis

Gobert engaged in a battle with Nikola Vucevic, and while the Bulls big man outplayed him from a statistical perspective, the Frenchman delivered an impressive outing in his own right. Gobert missed just two of his 11 shots from the field and finished just one board shy of what would've been his fourth double-double of the campaign. This should be categorized as a huge bounce-back effort for the veteran, who had scored 10 or fewer points in three of his previous four contests.

Gobert (ankle) has been cleared to play Monday night against Charlotte.

EDGE Analysis

Gobert was considered a true game-time decision leading up to tipoff, and he was able to prove his health during pregame warmups. The big man logged only 23 minutes in his previous appearance Saturday against the Spurs but figures to take on a larger workload Monday night.

Gobert (ankle) is questionable for Monday's matchup versus the Hornets.

Gobert is dealing with a left ankle sprain and is in jeopardy of missing his first game of the 2024-25 campaign. That's three double-doubles in five games for Gobert, who is still adjusting to having Julius Randle as his new frontcourt partner instead of Karl-Anthony Towns. Gobert has never been a high-volume scorer but only two field-goal attempts is still a low mark for him. The good news is that the four-time Defensive Player of the Year has logged double-digit rebounds in both of his outings this year and played exactly 35 minutes, giving him plenty of playing time to rack up defensive stats.

Gobert supplied 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-4 FT), 14 rebounds, two assists and one block across 35 minutes during Tuesday's 110-103 loss to the Lakers.

EDGE Analysis

Gobert grabbed his share of rebounds, but he had no answer for Anthony Davis in the paint. The combination of Gobert and Julius Randle needs some time to develop, as the trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks happened less than a month ago. It will take a few games for the duo to gain a better understanding of their roles in the new scheme, but Gobert should continue to be a nightly double-double threat.

The Timberwolves signed Gobert to a three-year, $110 million extension Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

After trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks, Gobert will likely remain with the club for the long haul after this extension. The four-time Defensive Player of the Year averaged a double-double for the eighth consecutive season in the 2023-24 campaign. Last season, Gobert averaged 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds and 2.8 combined steals plus blocks across 34.1 minutes per game in 76 regular-season appearances. The 32-year-old is expected to decline his player option for the 2025-26 season, allowing him to receive a fresh extension through the 2027-28 season, according to Charania.
