Gobert had a modest offensive performance with just one missed shot but looked lost and confused on defense, particularly in the second half. The Clippers inserted Terrence Mann into Friday's starting five and went with a small-ball lineup that completely took Gobert off his game. The Clippers had five shooters on the floor for most of the game and one was always open. They were spread out along the three-point line while Gobert was down low trying to be a rim protector. He did not record a blocked shot for a second straight game and was constantly being taken out of position. The 2021 NBA Defensive MVP finished with a game-low -24 and will head into the offseason with a bitter taste in his mouth after a disappointing playoff exit.

Gobert finished with a double-double in the loss but surprisingly came up empty when it came to blocked shots. The Clippers continue to play a style of offense that is able to negate his impact on the defensive end, something that is going to have to be rectified if they are to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

EDGE Analysis

Gobert was basically taken out of the equation by the Clippers who went primarily with a small-ball lineup. A tactic that has been implemented throughout the series thus far, Gobert was simply unable to impact the game on either end of the floor. This strategy is almost certainly going to repeat itself in Game 5 and so the Jazz will hoping he can have more of a tangible influence on the game, at least on the defensive end of the floor.

The big man's performance paled in comparison to his 13-point, 20-rebound, three-block effort in Game 2, but Gobert still finished with his seventh double-double this postseason. He also extended his streak of contests with at least one blocked shot to 11 games, including each of his eight playoff contests. Gobert and the Jazz will look to get back on track in Game 4 of the series Monday.

Gobert was relatively quiet with 10 points, 12 boards and two blocks in Game 1, but he surpassed each of those numbers in an impressive Game 2. The big man has double-doubled in all but one of his seven postseason games thus far in 2021 and has finished with multiple blocks in each of those contests. He is averaging 15.7 points, 13.9 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in the postseason overall.

This marks the third time Gobert has won the award in the last four seasons as he joins Dikembe Mutombo, Ben Wallace and Dwight Howard as the only players to earn DPOY honors at least three times. Gobert won the award by a fairly wide margin, earning 84 first-place votes while runner-up Ben Simmons received 15. During the regular season, Gobert averaged 14.3 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game, and he is currently averaging three blocks per contest in this year's playoffs.

Gobert was held in check in what was an underwhelming performance Tuesday. The Clippers did a decent job of negating his impact by going small to being the game. That said, Gobert's influence can often be felt despite the fact he may not be accumulating tangible production. He typically alters a number of shot attempts, simply due to his presence inside the paint.

Gobert went for 23 points (10-13 FG, 3-4 FT), 15 rebounds, three blocks and two assists across 33 minutes in Wednesday's 126-110 win over the Grizzlies in Game 5 of the series.

EDGE Analysis

Gobert delivered a dominant effort in the series clincher, as he finished with his best scoring output of the five-game set and also tied his series-high mark for rebounds with 15. The Frenchman posted four double-doubles in five games against Memphis and also registered multiple blocks in each contest, as he showcased his two-way upside on a nightly basis. For the series, Gobert averaged 17.4 points, 13.0 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game.

Gobert was stellar on the defensive end but was also nearly perfect from the field in the victory. Jonas Valanciunas kept pace with Gobert throughout the game but couldn't match his scoring total. While Gobert's shot volume is a little low in recent weeks, his contributions in rebounds and blocked shots more than make up for any dips in scoring.
