Thornton will make his preseason debut against the Sixers on Thursday, Candace Buckner of the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton has been held out for the duration of the preseason schedule, as he's dealt with a sprained thumb that he suffered during a practice at the end of September. He's expected to make his debut Thursday and should instantly slot in as Bradley Beal's direct backup at shooting guard, although it remains to be seen if he'll be put on any sort of minutes restriction in his first game back.

Thornton (thumb) has been ruled out of Monday's preseason matchup with the Knicks.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton has missed the last two games with a sprained thumb and the Wizards want to avoid any sort of further aggravation, so he'll be held out Monday. The Wizards next preseason outing is Thursday versus the Sixers, so depending on Thornton's practice availability over the next few days, it should be his next opportunity to return to the court.

Thornton (thumb) was on the court for practice Saturday, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The extent of Thornton's activity wasn't clear, but it's a positive sign as Monday's game against the Knicks approaches. The Wizards will likely check in with Thornton and see how he feels after Monday's morning shootaround before determining his status for the game later that evening.

Thornton (finger) will miss Thursday's contest against the 76ers, J. Michael of CSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton jammed his right thumb during a practice and has since been dealing with a sprain. To avoid adding to the injury, the Wizards will sit Thornton, which will offer Kelly Oubre and Tomas Satoransky some extra playing time.

Thornton (finger) has been ruled out of Tuesday's preseason matchup with the Heat, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton is dealing with a sprained thumb, which he suffered late last week during practice. The Wizards are going to avoid any sort of potential aggravation to the injury, so Thornton expects to sit out Tuesday's preseason game. With Thornton sidelined and Bradley Beal expected to see only 15 or 16 minutes, Kelly Oubre and Tomas Satoransky could be relied upon for increased minutes at shooting guard.

Thornton (finger) was a limited participant at practice Monday, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton sprained his thumb late last week and is still dealing with some lingering pain. Considering it's not that serious of an injury, Thornton isn't in danger of missing any regular season action, but the Wizards still may opt to hold him out of preseason games in order to avoid any sort of aggravation. He's currently considered questionable for Tuesday's matchup with the Heat, but it wouldn't be surprising if he was ultimately held out.

Thornton was held out of practice Thursday with a sprained thumb, Candace Buckner of the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton jammed his finger during a previous practice and is now dealing with some lingering pain, so the Wizards will hold him out to avoid any further damage. Considering it's only a minor sprain, it likely won't cost him much time, although his status for the Wizards' preseason opener on Oct. 4 remains questionable. He should be considered day-to-day for the time being.

Thornton re-signed with the Wizards on a one-year, $1.3 million contract for the veteran's minimum Thursday, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
After the Rockets were unable to trade Thornton at the trade deadline during the 2015-16 campaign, they ended up waiving him mid-season. The Wizards took advantage of his departure from Houston, claiming him off waivers and rostering him for the rest of the season. In 29 games with the Wizards, he finished with averages of 8.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists over 16 minutes per outing. Thornton will likely be a bit buried on the depth chart, so look for a high-teens-to-low-20's minutes average again barring any injuries higher up in the depth chart for the 29-year-old veteran.

Thornton was streaky coming off the bench for Houston and Washington during the 2015-16 season, but he managed to score in the double-digits 28 times.
EDGE Analysis
Thornton improved marginally this season after struggling in 2014-15 with the Celtics and Suns over a total of 48 outings where he averaged a tick below eight points per game. He averaged just over 10 points coming off the bench for the Rockets, but was waived by the team after a trade involving Thornton and teammate Donatas Motiejunas was nullified. After signing with the Wizards in March, Thornton saw action in 14 games and reached double-digits in five of those games. The 28-year-old should spark interest in the offseason for his streaky scoring abilities as he enters free agency once again.

Thornton started and scored 19 points (7-15 FG, 3-3 FT, 2-6 3Pt) to go along with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in 32 minutes during Monday's win over the Nets.
EDGE Analysis
The swingman entered the starting five as Washington held several key players out, and he responded with his best scoring output in over two weeks. Thornton could very well start the regular season finale with Washington likely to continue to play it safe with their young stars after already being eliminated from playoff involvement, leaving the door open for Thornton to provide some value Wednesday versus Atlanta.
