Marcus Smart had his best Summer League game against the Magic on Thursday, scoring 19 points, while dishing out five assists and grabbing three boards.
Smart shot only 5-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-9 from beyond the arc, but he looked poised and confident raising up for jump shots, all while playing his usual tough defense. It is still too early to determine what kind of fantasy value he will have for next season, but his continual improvement is a good sign.

Marcus Smart handed out six assists against the Pistons on Wednesday to go with 14 points, five boards, two steals, four turnovers and two 3-pointers.
He shot just 4-of-13 from the field and actually raised his shooting percentage to 25.0 percent. Smart's lack of a jump shot is likely his biggest roadblock, so that will keep him from moving into standard-league territory in fantasy formats. Just keep an eye on him for now.

Celtics rookie Marcus Smart is shooting 22 percent from the field through two Summer League games, including 1-of-10 from downtown.
Smart shot 41 percent with Oklahoma State, but the Celtics feel that his percentages are the result of bad shot selection rather than a lack of ability. Head coach Brad Stevens feels that Smart has solid shooting mechanics, and his defense has been universally praised, but fantasy owners should hedge their bets as long as Rajon Rondo is in Boston.

Marcus Smart struggled on the offensive end again on Monday, scoring 11 points with three rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block on 3-of-15 shooting.
The Celtics let a big lead over the Pacers evaporate, and ended up getting blown out 96-77. Smart has made defense his calling card, but he'll have a lot of competition for minutes in Boston, which will hinder his fantasy appeal.

Celtics assistant coach Jay Larranaga has liked what he's seen of Marcus Smart's defensive abilities.
"You just love his toughness," Larranaga said. "He's as tough as can be. He gets through screens. He dives on the floor... He just plays with tremendous intensity... he had some great help defensive plays that you wouldn't expect a 20-year-old to be able to do." Smart racked up five steals in his summer league debut, but his offense left something to be desired going just 2-of-8 from the field. With Avery Bradley re-signing with Boston, Smart's fantasy value will be limited.

Marcus Smart scored 10 points in his pro debut on Saturday with five boards, three assists, five steals, one block and one turnover.
He was great on defense, providing perimeter help on both shooting guards and on the point. Smart got better as the game went along and was able to get inside, but he did miss all five shots from beyond the arc. He'll need a couple breaks to start off his rookie season with a 24 minute-per-game allotment.

Marcus Smart has been playing PG for the Celtics during practices, but summer league coach Jay Larranaga said Smart will play alongside Phil Pressey during games.
This is as much about getting both players minutes as it is about testing Smart's ability to play the SG spot, but it will be interesting to see how he handles the challenge. Rajon Rondo and a newly re-signed Avery Bradley are locked into the starting backcourt and it may take a trade to thrust Smart into a big enough role for reliable fantasy value.

Marcus Smart told reporters at Boston's summer league workout that he plans on taking better shots in the NBA.
Smart only shot 42.2 percent from the field during college, so he obviously has some work to do on his shooting prowess. It sounds like the rookie has a plan, however, as he told reporters that improving his shot selection is key. "Take better shots," Smart said. "I took a lot of tough shots in college." Smart's early-season fantasy may be limited if Rajon Rondo is still wearing Celtic green, but he could end up being one of the 2014's draft class' most productive rookies if (when?) Rondo is traded.

Marcus Smart said he will play point guard and shooting guard at summer league.
General manager Danny Ainge said he expects to play Smart next to Rajon Rondo, but his college play suggests he'd be much better on the ball. Smart won't be undersized at summer league and could get his pro career off to a fast start in Orlando. He's on the radar in re-draft leagues as a late-round pick and his value would go up if the Celtics do deal Rondo.

Jazz vice president of player personnel Walt Perrin said Wednesday that he's been unable to bring in Marcus Smart for a workout.
Perrin said he's talked to Smart's agent four times and still can't get the Oklahoma State guard to come around. Interestingly, Smart tweeted that the Jazz weren't interested in him earlier this year, but he did delete that tweet. He is believed to want to go in the top four, but he did have some workouts with the Celtics, who hold the sixth pick in the draft.
