The Wizards are trading Goodwin and Bradley Beal to the Suns in exchange for Landry Shamet, Chris Paul, multiple second-round picks and multiple pick swaps, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reports.

Goodwin is likely to be considered a toss-in in this blockbuster trade, but he could prove valuable to Phoenix as a bench piece. In Goodwin, the Suns are getting a potential rotation piece under contract for only $1.9 million next season, plus a team option for 2024-25. In his second year as a pro, he averaged 6.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 17.8 minutes per game across 62 contests.

Goodwin closed Sunday's 114-109 loss to the Rockets with 22 points (8-14 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals over 30 minutes.

EDGE Analysis

The second-year guard set a new career high in scoring as he handled a lead role for a depleted Wizards roster. Goodwin started three of the final four games this season and played at least 20 minutes in seven of Washington's last nine contests, but he's unlikely to handle more than a depth role heading into 2023-24.

Goodwin will draw the start for Sunday's season finale against the Rockets.

EDGE Analysis

Goodwin stepped out of the starting unit last game with Delon Wright taking the floor, but Wright will sit out the finale with knee soreness, opening a starting spot for Goodwin again. Goodwin averaged 28.5 minutes of action in his previous two starts and will likely log a similar workload Sunday.

Though he's started in consecutive games while top point guards Monte Morris (ankle) and Delon Wright (illness) have sat out along with other higher-usage players like Bradley Beal (knee), Kristaps Porzingis (illness) and Kyle Kuzma (ankle), Goodwin hasn't stepped in to fill the scoring void in any sort of major way. Despite taking on 28- and 29-minute workloads in the two starts, Goodwin has barely cleared double digits in the scoring column on both occasions while shooting a collective 38.5 percent from the field. Fortunately for those that streamed him into fantasy lineups, Goodwin hasn't been a total zero, as he's racked up 15 assists between the two contests, and he came up big in the defensive categories Wednesday.

Goodwin will step into the starting point guard spot with Monte Morris (ankle) and Delon Wright (illness) sidelined. In four games with the first five, Goodwin has averaged 10.3 points, 4.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals across 31.1 minutes, but could see a higher usage rate with the Wizards incredibly shorthanded.

Goodwin recorded 11 points (5-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt), seven rebounds, six assists and one steal across 25 minutes during Sunday's 118-109 loss to the Knicks.

Goodwin had a bigger opportunity Sunday, as the Wizards sat Kristaps Porzingis (illness), Bradley Beal (knee), Monte Morris (ankle) and Kyle Kuzma (ankle). Despite coming off the bench, the second-year guard tied for the team-lead in rebounds and had the second most assists. The Wizards may have role players stepping into bigger roles for the rest of the season, but Goodwin might not get enough playing time to be a difference maker in fantasy.

Goodwin ended Friday's 136-124 victory over the Spurs with 17 points (6-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 4-5 FT), five rebounds, five assists and two steals over 31 minutes.

The Wizards put up 136 points against the Spurs for their third-highest scoring game of the season. Goodwin has shown plenty of flashes this season when he gets opportunities, and he got a big one Friday as he cleared 30 minutes for the first time since Dec. 12. He could be an intriguing fantasy pickup down the stretch if Bradley Beal (knee) and Kyle Kuzma (ankle) miss additional time.

Goodwin finished Wednesday's 118-104 loss to the Nuggets with 12 points (5-8 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds and one assist in 17 minutes.

Following a six-game stretch earlier this month in which he sat out twice in coach's decisions and logged between four and 13 minutes over his four appearances, Goodwin looked like a fringy member of head coach Wes Unseld Jr.'s rotation. However, the situation has changed for Goodwin over the last two games, as he's taken on minutes loads in the teens while going an impressive 7-for-12 from the field between those contests. The absence of Kyle Kuzma (ankle) for the past two contests and Bradley Beal (knee) for Wednesday's game may have played a factor in Goodwin's boosted playing time, so his role will be keeping an eye on once the Wizards are back to full strength.
