The Wizards and John Wall are expected to agree on a contract extension before the deadline in October, multiple league sources tell the Washington Post. This is more of a barometer for negotiations than an actual 'report', especially since Wall is currently touring China with Adidas. That said, the Wizards obviously hope to lock up their franchise PG and former No. 1 pick, and it will be interesting to see if they immediately offer him a max extension.

When asked about the Wizards' options with the No. 3 draft pick this summer, John Wall said the Wizards "need a [power forward] that can pick and pop." He didn't name specific players or offer more details, but it wouldn't be surprising if the Wizards use their pick to upgrade at PF, especially with 2011 lottery pick Jan Vesely showing minimal signs of improvement.

John Wall is expected to be invited to Team USA's mini-camp alongside teammate Bradley Beal. The pool of young players includes Wall, Beal, Anthony Davis, Harrison Barnes, Klay Thompson and Kawhi Leonard among others, so if nothing else it will be a good opportunity for the young players in today's game to hone their skills against one another.

Over the final 49 games of last season, The Wizards outscored their opponents 95.6 to 94.5. Over the first 33 games, the Wiz got outscored 97.2 to 89.2. It's not a coincidence that John Wall was on the court for those final 49 games and inactive for the first 33. It's perhaps the biggest piece of evidence his agent can bring to the table when the two sides open negotiations on a new contract July 1. Wall is going to be asking for a maximum five-year, $79 million extension.

The Wizards plan to begin contract extension discussions with John Wall on July 1, the first day the team is eligible to do so. All signs continue to point to Washington maxing out Wall. "Obviously, we've said all along that we're building this team around John and with John. We want to have him here long term," said GM Ernie Grunfeld. We don't anticipate it taking much time to get something done if the Wizards come to the table offering max money.

John Wall sounds willing to accept less than a maximum salary contract extension depending on what happens with the Wizards in the offseason. We don't really believe Wall will take less than the max. "You never know how it goes," he said. "The main thing with me is it's not all about me. I'm not a selfish type of person, type of player. All I want to do is win. If we're winning, I'm cool with anything." All signs point to the Wizards giving him a max extension in the offseason and building around their franchise player.

Wizards owner Ted Leonsis said the team plans to keep John Wall for a "long, long time." All signs point to Washington making Wall a max player and extending him long-term in the offseason, and frankly the Wizards really have no choice. Wall displayed improvement when he got on the floor this season, and the team has to be hopeful he'll continue to evolve his game and his chemistry with Bradley Beal will continue to grow. Don't expect Wall to be wearing a different uniform any time soon.

John Wall shot 8-of-21 from the field for 23 points with three boards, four assists and one 3-pointer in 38 minutes against the Bulls on Friday. Once Wall made his season debut on January 12, he didn't miss a single game and averaged 32.6 minutes per game. Wall has to work on his jumper a bit, but he looks ripe for the picking in the second round next year.

John Wall scored 24 points vs. the Sixers in a 97-86 loss on Friday, adding two boards, seven assists, one steal and one block in 35 minutes. He shot 9-of-21 from the field, but he's been solid shooting the ball lately. He's shooting 46 percent since the All-Star break and when taking into account that he's averaged 20.6 points, 4.6 boards, 7.8 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.9 blocks and 0.4 triples in that span, he'll be someone to consider in the early part of the second round in standard leagues next year.

John Wall just missed a triple-double in Wednesday's loss with 17 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists, two steals and two blocks on 7-of-18 shooting. He didn't hit a 3-pointer and his lack of them is the only thing keeping him from being a first-round pick next season. And even without them, he still might be worth a late first-round pick anyway.
