Sims' playing time had been trending down even while he's maintained a spot in the starting five in place of the injured Mitchell Robinson (thumb), but the second-year big man out of Texas saw a big uptick in minutes Tuesday after playing no more than 27 in any of his previous five outings. The elevated run was a byproduct of backup center Isaiah Hartenstein accruing five fouls in just 13 minutes of court time, so Sims could easily see his minutes dip dramatically Friday in Philadelphia. Before running into foul trouble Tuesday, Hartenstein had handily outproduced Sims while playing more minutes in each of the previous four contests, despite continuing to come off the bench.

Sims produced one rebound, two assists, one block and one steal in 21 minutes during Saturday's 134-128 overtime loss to the Clippers.

Sims remained in the starting lineup but was once again benched down the stretch. Despite his aforementioned role, Sims has been outplayed by Isaiah Hartenstein of late. He has failed to score in three straight games, adding basically nothing in terms of supporting stats. Hartenstein is clearly the preferred option right now.

Sims got the starting nod in place of injured Mitchell Robinson (thumb) and did an excellent job while on the court. He came close to a double-double in 28 minutes of playing time and nailed every one of his shot attempts while also adding a couple of steals. While it's a small sample size and while he didn't play 30-plus minutes yet, the 24-year-old center is someone to keep an eye on to see if he continues starting and playing with similar efficiency in Robinson's absence.

Sims will enter the starting five for Friday's game against the Hawks.

EDGE Analysis

Sims will get the first crack at the starting center job with Mitchell Robinson out at least three weeks with a broken thumb. However, the Knicks will likely run more of a rotation at the five with Isaiah Hartenstein and Obi Toppin also vying for center minutes. Sims is a solid streaming option considering his strong per-36 output of 10.1 points, 12.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.
