Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said Monday that Sims (groin) is questionable for Tuesday's exhibition game against the Pistons, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.

Sims was drafted 58th overall by the Knicks last season and saw meaningful action as New York dealt with frontcourt injuries. He appeared in 41 games (five starts) and averaged 2.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in 13.5 minutes. Per 36 minutes, he averaged 5.8 points, 11.0 rebounds (4.0 offensive), 1.4 blocks and 1.4 assists. Sims will be competing for backup center minutes with Isaiah Hartenstein.

Sims registered six points (3-4 FG), 14 rebounds, one assist and two steals in 39 minutes during Sunday's 105-94 victory over the Raptors.

Sims didn't register impressive scoring figures but was a dominant force on the glass, and in fact, the 14 rebounds represented a season-high mark for him. He pulled down at least nine rebounds in each of the final three games of the regular season, starting each of those contests. He ended the season with averages of just 2.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, though, as he saw an expanded role only down the stretch when the Knicks were out of the playoff race.

Sims finished Wednesday's 110-98 loss to the Nets with 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-6 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and one steal in 35 minutes.

EDGE Analysis

Sims notched the first double-double of his career Wednesday. Despite being listed as a power forward, Sims operates as an undersized center at 6-foot-9, but his 250-pound frame makes him an imposing force inside. Per-36 minutes, Sims is averaging 10.9 rebounds and 5.8 points on 76.1 percent shooting from the field.

Sims remained in the starting lineup despite the return of Mitchell Robinson, ending the night with a serviceable fantasy line. It is unclear if this move is going to stick moving forward or if it was simply a way of easing Robinson back into things. If he does hold down the starting role, Sims could be someone to grab in deeper formats.
