Whiteside is presumably getting the night off for rest before the team's final preseason contest Friday. In his stead, Bam Adebayo and Kelly Olynyk should see expanded roles.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra gave Whiteside a vote of confidence at Monday's media day, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports. "We need him," Spoelstra said. "He knows that. I know that. I haven't forgotten about the player he's capable of being."

A coach publicly expressing confidence in a player usually isn't news, but Whiteside is a unique case. The 29-year-old reclamation project averaged 17.0 points and a league-best 14.1 rebounds per game two seasons ago, but he struggled to find consistency amid injuries in 2017-18, appearing in just 54 games and averaging more than seven fewer minutes per game (25.3 MPG) than he did in 2016-17. While Whiteside started every game in which he appeared, the Heat often favored Kelly Olynyk and rookie Bam Adebayo at center, with both players offering more versatility, particularly on the offensive end. As one of the few remaining "traditional" centers in the league, Whiteside's career is at somewhat of a crossroads, but at this point it appears the Heat will attempt to make things work with the former second-round pick, who is set to make $25.4 million this season and holds a player option for $27.1 million in 2019-20.

Whiteside finished with just two points, five rebounds, and one block in 10 minutes during Tuesday's 104-91 loss to the 76ers.

Whiteside started the game was barely visible Tuesday, playing just 10 minutes and doing very little with it. His season comes to an end on a sour note and he has been one of the more disappointing players across this fantasy season. His role on the team remains questionable heading into the off-season and although he didn't give too much away over the final stretches, there has to be a real chance he is not with the team come October.

Whiteside had 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-3 FT), 13 rebounds and one block in 26 minutes during Saturday's 106-102 loss to the 76ers.

EDGE Analysis

Whiteside produced his best line of the post-season, compiling a double-double in 26 minutes of action. Kelly Olynyk was in early foul trouble and never got going allowing Whiteside to see some extended run. Despite the increase in playing time, Whiteside was not able to get the Heat over the line as the fell 3-1 in the series, heading back to Philadelphia.

Whiteside had just four points, five rebounds, and one block in 15 minutes during Monday's 113-103 victory over the 76ers.

EDGE Analysis

Whiteside continued his recent lack of playing time, seeing just 15 minutes of action in the Game 2 victory. He was once again outplayed by Kelly Olynyk and looks as though he is going to be used only when his extra size is needed. On a positive note, Joel Embiid (face) could return for Game 3 and this could mean that Whiteside's defensive presence is required, affording him some extra playing time.

Whiteside produced two points (1-4 FG), six rebounds, one assist and two blocks across 12 minutes in Miami's 130-103 loss to the Sixers in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series.

EDGE Analysis

Whiteside saw minimal playing time with Kelly Olynyk hot throughout the night and the Sixers playing a smaller lineup with Joel Embiid (orbital) still out of action. The enigmatic big man is sure to have a bigger role once Embiid returns to the lineup, but he could be largely neutralized again in Game 2 if Philadelphia holds him out again, therefore making him a risky DFS play.

Whiteside recorded 10 points (5-16 FG), 12 rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 22 minutes during Wednesday's 116-109 victory over the Raptors.

EDGE Analysis

Whiteside finished with a double-double Wednesday but still saw just 22 minutes of playing time. The low minutes continue to be a worrying trend and his role on the Heat moving into next season remains a big question. Potential owners should keep an eye on how he is used during the playoffs and also how the off-season unfolds.

He was able to produce solid numbers despite another reduced workload. Expect Whiteside's court time to be limited once again in the regular-season finale Wednesday in Toronto, as the Heat look ahead to the playoffs.

Whiteside tallied 14 points (6-13 FG, 2-2 FT), and six rebounds in 17 minutes during Friday's 122-98 loss to New York.

EDGE Analysis

Whiteside saw his playing time fall to just 17 minutes Friday, possibly due to the nature of the scoreline. He was outplayed by Kyle O'Quinn and has been a shell of the player he once was over the past few weeks. It is going to be interesting what happens in the off-season if the trend of playing less continues. He is still a must-own player but certainly doesn't offer the upside he did at the beginning of the season.

Whiteside had four points (2-6 FG), 13 rebounds, three blocks and two assists in 21 minutes during Wednesday's 115-86 victory over the Hawks.

EDGE Analysis

One night removed from seeing his playing time go back up to 28 minutes, Whiteside was benched down the stretch again, seeing just 21 minutes of game time. This was possibly due to the nature of the scoreline, however, Whiteside was outplayed by Kelly Olynyk once again and it is something to keep an eye on moving forward.
