The Hornets currently lacked any true rotation on Sunday, as all of their starters (including Bacon) logged a lot of minutes. Only three of their bench players saw more than 10 minutes of playing time, a trend that should eventually balance out. Bacon will likely be someone who is swapped out more frequently, as promising guys like Devonte Graham will earn more playing time as the season progresses.

Getting the start over Nic Batum, Bacon's role become even more solidified when the veteran broke his finger before halftime. Bacon saw his minutes and production rise slightly last year in his second NBA season, but the door is now open for him to see a significant uptick in his numbers on a club lacking any established scoring options.

Bacon will draw the start in Wednesday's season opener against the Bulls.

Bacon will draw the start over the veteran Nicolas Batum. With major roster shake-ups over the summer, Bacon finds himself in a position to play significant minutes this season. Across five preseason games, he averaged 18.0 fantasy points in 25.2 minutes.

Bacon finished with 21 points (7-13 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 4-5 FT), five assists, and three rebounds in 27 minutes during Monday's 120-99 win over the Grizzlies.

EDGE Analysis

Bacon had almost as many turnovers (four) as dimes. However, he was superb overall, providing efficient scoring while helping relieve Terry Rozier of some of the burden to set others up as a playmaker. Bacon will still have to contend with veteran Nicolas Batum (Achilles), among others, for minutes and touches. Nevertheless, the much younger Bacon seems to be in the process of earning a sizable role heading into the regular season.

Bacon managed 17 points (4-12 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 8-10 FT), five rebounds and one assist across 26 minutes during the Hornets' 100-87 preseason loss to the 76ers on Friday.

EDGE Analysis

Bacon wasn't exactly efficient with his shot, but a strong showing from the free-throw line and solid complementary contributions made for a strong fantasy night overall. The third-year wing came on in the latter portion of the 2018-19 campaign and is set to open the season as the starting shooting guard in a new-look backcourt alongside offseason acquistion Terry Rozier.

Bacon is in the starting lineup for Sunday's preseason game against the Celtics.

The Hornets will go with Bacon, Terry Rozier, Nic Batum, Miles Bridges and Cody Zeller on Sunday in what could be a preview of their potential regular-season starting five. Coach James Borrego will likely try out more than one lineup during the preseason, but this is an encouraging development for Bacon as it relates to his battle for the starting shooting guard spot.

With both Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb out of Charlotte, Bacon is expected to assume a prominent role in the Hornets backcourt. He'll vie for playing time with Terry Rozier, Devonte' Graham, Malik Monk and Nicolas Batum in what should be an interesting positional battle.

Bacon had an above average performance from a scoring standpoint, although he didn't contribute much elsewhere. He impressed down the stretch, finishing off the season with three straight performances of 12 or more points. This boosted his season scoring average to 7.2 ppg. The 23-year-old's 2018-2019 campaign will come to an end following a loss in the finale to the Magic.
