Fox (hamstring) told the media Monday that he does not expect to be ready for the start of the regular season, Spurs' broadcaster Jacob Tobey reports.

Fox, who also had surgery on his left pinkie finger March 13, is participating in basketball activity and feeling good, though the team remains cautious with a right hamstring issue. It isn't expected to be a long-term concern, but signs point to him missing some time early in the season, potentially giving rookie Dylan Harper or veteran Jordan McLaughlin added opportunities in the backcourt.

Fox had told reporters in early November (while playing for the Kings) that he was playing through a ligament injury in his left pinky finger. It didn't appear to bother him too much as he missed only four games due to a right thumb sprain and none after being traded by Sacramento to San Antonio in early February, but the injury appears to have become severe enough for him to warrant surgery. Fox will end the 2024-25 regular season averaging 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals over 36.1 minutes per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field (including 31.0 percent from three on 6.1 3PA/G). Stephon Castle -- who was moved to the bench following the acquisition of Fox -- is the likely candidate to enter the Spurs' starting five in the backcourt alongside Chris Paul, and Julian Champagnie and Keldon Johnson stand to see more playing time for the rest of the season.

Fox ended with 32 points (12-25 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 6-6 FT), nine rebounds, 11 assists and one steal across 41 minutes during Wednesday's 126-116 victory over the Mavericks.

Fox scored a game-high 32 points, the most he has scored since arriving in San Antonio prior to the trade deadline. Although a season-ending health scare for Victor Wembanyama has set the Spurs back a little when it comes to their timeline, Fox has been able to deliver serviceable production on most nights. Over the past 14 games, he is averaging 20.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.6 three-pointers.

Fox had a team-high 22 points (8-12 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and three assists over 27 minutes during Sunday's 141-124 loss to Minnesota.

EDGE Analysis

The four made threes represented his best performance from beyond the arc as a member of the Spurs. Fox's numbers have dropped a bit since the trade, and being the focal point of the offense in the absence of Victor Wembanyama (shoulder) hasn't improved matters. Over 10 games since Wembanyama was lost for the season, Fox has averaged 18.1 points, 5.8 assists, 4.3 boards, 1.7 threes and 1.5 steals, but he's shooting just 41.4 percent from the floor and 27.0 percent from long distance.

Fox accumulated 16 points (6-17 FG, 0-6 3Pt, 4-5 FT), four rebounds, eight assists and one steal in 33 minutes during Friday's 127-109 loss to the Kings.

EDGE Analysis

Fox was certainly motivated to post a big number against his former team, but things did not go as planned. He failed to connect beyond the arc and posted subpar numbers in the loss. The Spurs won't make the playoffs and are a bit lost without Victor Wembanyama (shoulder). They are 3-7 over the past 10 games with no signs of improving, making Fox a less desirable fantasy target compared to his value with the Kings.

Fox totaled 20 points (7-17 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 5-5 FT), three rebounds, seven assists, one block and one steal over 35 minutes during Saturday's 130-128 victory over the Grizzlies.

Fox iced the game for the Spurs in the final seconds with a clutch mid-range jumper. The former Kings floor general has adjusted well to life in San Antonio and is thriving alongside Chris Paul in the backcourt. Fox is averaging 19.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game since joining the Spurs.

Fox ended with seven points (3-12 FG, 1-5 3Pt), three rebounds, three assists and one block across 28 minutes during Wednesday's 118-106 loss to the Rockets.

It was a brutal game for the Spurs, as they were down by 26 points heading into the fourth quarter, and no one in the team's starting five managed to score in double digits. For his part, the seven points represented Fox's worst performance since being acquired by San Antonio, and just the second time in 10 games for his new club that he's failed to score in double digits. The 27-year-old guard has been struggling to get his shot off as defenses adjust to not having Victor Wembanyama (shoulder) to worry about -- over the last three contests, Fox has averaged just 11.7 points, 5.7 assists, 4.3 boards, 2.3 steals, 1.0 threes and 0.7 blocks while shooting a woeful 24.5 percent from the floor and 14.3 percent (3-for-21) from long distance.

Fox closed Tuesday's 109-103 loss to the Pelicans with 15 points (6-21 FG, 1-9 3Pt, 2-3 FT), nine assists, six steals and three rebounds in 38 minutes.

EDGE Analysis

Fox struggled from the field once again, and over his last five outings, he has shot 42.2 percent from the field and only 27.3 percent from three-point range. However, the 27-year-old tied his season-high mark in steals, and he has racked up 22 outings with multiple steals through 54 regular-season appearances. Additionally, the star guard recorded nine or more assists for the 11th time this season.

Fox contributed 27 points (11-18 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, five assists and four steals over 30 minutes during Friday's 125-110 loss to the Pistons.

EDGE Analysis

It was another big performance from Fox in the wake of a season-ending shoulder issue for Victor Wembanyama. Still, unlike Thursday's win over the Suns, the 27-year-old guard got almost no help -- the rest of the Spurs' starting lineup managed a combined 11 points. Fox has scored 20-plus points in seven of eight February appearances, averaging 22.6 points, 6.9 assists, 4.4 boards, 2.0 steals and 1.9 threes on the month while shooting 50.4 percent from the floor.
