Douglas-Roberts was waived by the Pelicans on Friday, Jim Eichenhofer of Pelicans.com reports.

While he had arguably the best hair on the roster, Douglas-Roberts failed to impress in the preseason, struggling from the field in five appearances. The former Memphis standout has played for four teams since 2010-11 but hasn't held a truly significant role since appearing in 49 games and average 20.7 minutes for the Hornets in 2013-14. Douglas-Roberts will look to latch on with another team at some point, but he could end up in the D-League or overseas.

Douglas-Roberts scored five points in 19 minutes, all from the free-throw line, to go along with a rebound and three steals Monday in the Pelicans' loss to the Rockets.

Douglas-Roberts only shot the ball once from the field, but still managed to score five points coming off the bench. He saw an increase in playing time due to the injuries to Tyreke Evans (knee) and Luke Babbitt (hamstring), but Douglas-Roberts did see similar minutes to Alonzo Gee, his main competition for minutes off the bench. In fact, Douglas-Roberts looked better than Gee in the box score, but the 28-year-old will probably still be relegated to a lower bench role once Evans and Babbitt are playing.

Douglas-Roberts signed a two-year deal with the Pelicans on Monday, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.

EDGE Analysis

The journeyman has spent stints with several NBA teams since entering the league as as second-round pick in 2008, mostly recently appearing in 12 games for the Clippers last season. The 28-year-old was a meaningful contributor for the Mavs in 2013-14, averaging 6.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in nearly 21 minutes per game. While he's a crafty scorer and adequate defender, Douglas-Roberts struggles as an outside shooter (career 32.9 percent), making it difficult to keep him on the floor for long stretches in certain lineups. In New Orleans, Douglas-Roberts will compete with the likes of Luke Babbitt, Alonzo Gee and Quincy Pondexter for bench minutes on the wing. The details of Douglas-Roberts' contract are yet to be disclosed, but it's possible the contract is only partially guaranteed, which would make him a candidate to be waived at some point.

CDR was recently acquired by Boston in a 3 team trade, but the Celtics probably never had the intention of keeping him on the roster. if Douglas-Roberts clears waivers he will have a chance to sign with the team that gives him the best shot at playing time, though even in a best-case scenario, he probably doesn't have value in most leagues.

Douglas-Roberts was traded from the Clippers to the Celtics as part of a three-team deal Thursday, the Celtics' official website reports. Douglas-Roberts wasn't a part of the Clippers' rotation, and while that won't necessarily change in Boston, his shot at earning playing time may at least be a bit better. There's still probably nothing to see here in terms of fantasy value.

Douglas-Roberts, who has sat out the previous 17 games with a partially torn Achilles tendon, returned to action, tallying one rebound in his six minutes Saturday. While it's great to see Douglas-Roberts back on the court, his fantasy value is almost negligible and will have have appeal in the deepest of leagues.

While available, Douglas-Roberts hasn't played in more than weeks and averaged just 11.3 minutes in four games before going down, so expectations should be kept low right off the bat.
