Playing time hasn't been easy for Nicholson to come by lately. Between Dec. 23 and Jan. 1, Nicholson averaged just 10.8 minutes per game. Nicholson, who at one point failed to receive court time in six consecutive games, made efficient use of his minutes in Monday's lopsided defeat. If Nicholson's performance continues, look for him to receive additional minutes over Channing Frye.

Nicholson came off the bench Monday vs. the Nets, scoring 15 points with three boards and two steals.

EDGE Analysis

Nicholson's 15 points may be a little misleading because most of them came in the fourth quarter when the game was already decided. His solid play may earn him some more minutes but he still remains behind Nikola Vucevic and Channing Frye on the depth chart.

Nicholson logged just 14 minutes in Wednesday's 107-104 loss to the Suns, posting nine points (3-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, and five personal fouls.

EDGE Analysis

Nicholson hasn't played this few minutes since Nov. 21, and limited time on the court obviously hampered his production on Tuesday. He also drew five personal fouls, which made it hard for him to stay on the court, so owners may not need to panic yet. It's unclear if he'll continue to be playing 20-plus minutes a game, or if he'll eventually dwindle down to being a bench warmer, but we'll probably have a good idea after observing the next few games.

Nicholson posted eight points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and 14 rebounds in 21 minutes in Tuesday's 85-74 win against the Nuggets.

EDGE Analysis

Nicholson has now logged at least 20 minutes for eight straight games, and appears to be continuing at that pace even off the bench. He's not a particularly strong contributor in a specific category, but he does put out enough points, rebounds, and threes to be worth looking at in deeper formats.

Nicholson has seen himself in an expanded role over the past five games, averaging 10.6 points, five rebounds, one block, and 1.2 treys in 26 minutes during that span. The Magic are apparently benefiting from his play, as they've gone on a five-game winning streak with this new arrangement. Nicholson still comes off the bench behind Channing Frye, but if he keeps this production up, he could still provide value in deeper formats.

Nicholson logged a season-high 31 minutes Tuesday against the Timberwolves, posting 15 points (6-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT) and six rebounds, helping the Magic secure their fourth straight win in a close game.

EDGE Analysis

Nicholson hit two free-throws with three seconds left in regulation to secure the Magic's lead, and it's apparent Nicholson's expanded role over the recent stretch has contributed to more Magic victories. It's still unclear if he'll keep coming off the bench, or if he'll eventually start, but he's quietly averaging 11.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, one block, and 1.4 treys in 25.6 minutes over the last five games. A speculative pickup in deeper formats wouldn't hurt.

EDGE Analysis

Nicholson has seen a large increase in playing time as of late. After not playing in a majority of Orlando's contests this season he has played at least 23 minutes in four straight games, averaging 10.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game over that span. Nicholson appears to be a viable fantasy option in larger formats as long as he continues to see minutes in the low 20s.

Nicholson had his best game of the season in Monday's 117-103 loss to the Cavaliers, scoring a season-high 18 points (6-9 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT) and ripping down eight rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.

EDGE Analysis

Nicholson had struggled to crack the Magic rotation, but with so many players struggling he made the best of his opportunity Monday. It was the most playing time he's seen all season, so Nicholson is definitely someone to keep an eye on for a potential waiver wire claim.

Nicholson made just his third appearance of the season in Wednesday's overtime win over the Timberwolves, scoring eight points (3-12 FG, 2-3 3Pt) and grabbing seven rebounds over 22 minutes.

EDGE Analysis

Nicholson has been outside of coach Scott Skiles' rotation all season, but after starting center Nikola Vucevic submitted a lackluster first half Wednesday, Skiles elected to shake things up in the frontcourt. Skiles benched Vucevic for the entire second half, allowing Nicholson and Jason Smith to each play more than 20 minutes on the night. It's not expected that Vucevic, who has averaged a double-double the past three seasons, is likely to see a huge drop in minutes beyond Wednesday's game, so consider Nicholson's appointment into the rotation to be a one-time measure. By shooting poorly from the field in his extended minutes, Nicholson didn't exactly make a strong case for a regular role.

Nicholson was unable to see the court Monday when the Magic fell to Indiana 97-84.

EDGE Analysis

The 25-year-old power forward has only played four minutes in Orlando's first eight games. It doesn't appear that Nicholson will be seeing much playing time going forward barring any injuries to the Magic lineup, as he is slotted behind Tobias Harris and Aaron Gordon on the depth chart.
