Soderstrom is not in the starting lineup for Friday's matchup against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty-hitting Soderstrom will start from the bench as the Athletics take on lefty Cole Ragans. The 22-year-old has started in six of Oakland's last eight games, though J.D. Davis will take the field at first base Friday.

Soderstrom is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
With lefty Framber Valdez on the hill for Houston, the lefty-hitting Soderstrom will retreat to the bench. Soderstrom appears to have settled into the strong side of a platoon at first base with the right-handed-hitting J.D. Davis, who will get the starting nod Wednesday.

Soderstrom went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a double in a loss to the Astros on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Soderstrom delivered half the offense for the Athletics on the night with his fourth-inning knock, which plated Brent Rooker. The 22-year-old extended the red-hot start to his first big-league stint of 2024 with his multi-hit effort, as he's now reached safely in all four games he's appeared in and has doubled in back-to-back contests.

Soderstrom is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Soderstrom has gone 4-for-12 with one home run and two RBI. He'll be available off the bench for Sunday's series finale while Tyler Nevin gets the start at first base.

Soderstrom went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Getting the start at first base in the nightcap and batting eighth in his MLB season debut, Soderstrom got hold of a cutter by Jack Leiter and drove it over the fence in left-center field in the fourth inning. Soderstrom's power is legit -- he has two 20-homer campaigns in the minors, and he'd clubbed seven long balls in 27 games for Triple-A Las Vegas prior to his promotion Wednesday -- but Oakland prefers Shea Langeliers' defense behind the plate, and the team's 1B/DH situation is crowded. Playing time could be hard for Soderstrom to come by, even if he does stick around on the big-league roster.

The Athletics recalled Soderstrom from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Soderstrom has slashed .245/.353/.529 with seven home runs over 27 games at Las Vegas this season. The 22-year-old managed just a .472 OPS and 31.2 percent strikeout rate with the Athletics in 2023. Soderstrom will give Oakland a third catcher, and he could also see some action at first base and/or designated hitter.

Soderstrom owns a .148 average and .233 on-base percentage across his first 30 plate appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas, but he sports an impressive .519 slugging percentage in that sample as well.
EDGE Analysis
The final component of Soderstrom's slash line is the byproduct of having laced all four of his hits thus far for extra bases in the form of a double and three home runs. The early power is certainly encouraging, and Soderstrom's minuscule .063 BABIP over the small sample implies he's run into some bad luck when putting the ball in play early this minor-league season. Soderstrom's numbers should therefore be due for some improvement, especially when also factoring in this is the third consecutive year he'll have spent time at the Triple-A Level after logging 373 plate appearances with the Aviators over the last two minor-league campaigns.

The Athletics optioned Soderstrom to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Soderstrom got off to a slow start in spring training, and the struggles continued. The catcher posted a .370 OPS across 34 plate appearances in 14 games. At Triple-A Las Vegas in 2023, the 22-year-old had a .833 OPS. This move points to Carlos Perez opening the season as the backup catcher for Oakland.

Soderstrom, who dealt with an illness earlier in spring training, is 1-for-8 with a double, an RBI, a walk and a run over his first four exhibitions.
EDGE Analysis
The promising prospect slashed just .160/.232/.240 across 45 games in his first taste of the big leagues last season, but Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports that Soderstrom is set to have multiple paths to playing time this coming season. Soderstrom will be part of a left-right platoon at catcher with Shea Langeliers, but he'll also see time at first base and designated hitter. Now that he seems to be back to full health, manager Mark Kotsay is optimistic about the improvement he believes the 2020 first-round pick is capable of. "From last year to this year, the body language is better," Kotsay said. "The intensity is better. I think the focus is better. Biggest positive coming out of a negative from last season in terms of the performance side is that he's recognizing things that may help him be successful this coming season."

Soderstrom went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 9-4 loss to the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Soderstrom had gone 0-for-7 over his first three games since he was called up Sept. 1. His third-inning homer sparked a four-run rally for the Athletics, but that was the extent of their offense in the loss. The catcher is up to three homers, six RBI, eight runs scored and a double while slashing just .158/.231/.263 over 104 plate appearances.
