Tyler Clippard was a bit shaky on Saturday, allowing a pair of singles before retiring the Rockies to pick up his 14th save of the season.
Clippard has been absolutely incredible since taking over as the Nationals closer, so much so that Drew Storen will set-up for him when returning from the DL. Clippard has posted a 1.73 ERA while converting all 14 of his save chances since assuming the role on May 22.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson confirmed Friday evening that Tyler Clippard will be used as the team's closer until Drew Storen (elbow) is activated.
Henry Rodriguez is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained index finger and Brad Lidge is locked into a setup role. Clippard, 27, has registered a 2.55 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 24 2/3 innings this season, and should do well in Washington's ninth-inning role. He obviously needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.

Tyler Clippard picked up his third save in the last four games Saturday.
The Nationals began the ninth inning with an 8-4 lead, so Craig Stammen started the frame. But as soon as Stammen issued a leadoff double and then a one-out walk, it became a save situation. At that point, Clippard got the call and easily closed it out. Although Sean Burnett is expected to share closing duties, Clippard looks like the man to own for now.

Tyler Clippard fell to 1-2 in relief this season, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks in an inning of work on Thursday.
Ugh. Clippard needed 29 pitches to get through the inning, tossing only 15 for strikes. Since entering the season as one of baseball's top set-up men, he has yet to throw a perfect inning in nine appearances.

Tyler Clippard (shoulder) is unavailable for Monday's game.
Both Clippard and Nationals manager Davey Johnson are downplaying the right-hander's sore shoulder, but they'll hold him out on Monday anyway. We wouldn't be worried about him at this point.

Tyler Clippard tossed a scoreless eighth inning on Thursday, earning the Opening Day win against the Cubs.
Clippard threw 10 of 14 pitches for strikes. He distinguished himself last year as one of the league's elite setup men. Coming off a terrific spring, the 27-year-old could not have asked for a better start to the season.

The Nationals and RHP Tyler Clippard avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.
The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. Clippard, a Super Two qualifier, registered a fantastic 1.83 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 104/26 K/BB ratio in 88 1/3 innings last year. He's quickly developed into one of the best setup men in baseball.

Mike Axila of MLB Trade Rumors notes that the Nationals could consider extending Tyler Clippard on a short-term contract.
Clippard projects to earn $1.7 million in arbitration as a Super Two qualifier and the Nationals could look to buy out some of his arbitration years on a two- or three-year contract worth about $2-3 million per season. The 26-year-old been extremely overworked in the last couple years, but remains among the best relievers in the game.
