Antone (hip) is trending in the right direction and still appears set to make the Opening Day roster, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Antone has had a bit of a disrupted spring, dealing with a minor groin issue and now a minor hip problem. The Reds remain optimistic about his chances of avoiding the injured list, however, though it's still not clear exactly what role he'll serve. He's in the mix as both a starter and a high-leverage reliever.

Antone stopped a side bullpen session Saturday with an irritation to his hip flexor, but it's not going to shut him down from his throwing program, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. "We're going to work with him as tolerated and keep strengthening and progress as we can," GM Nick Krall said.
EDGE Analysis
While it may not shut down Antone's throwing program, it may slow down his chances of winning a spot in the Reds' rotation, at least to begin the season. Nonetheless, he can still be of value in an ace reliever role, especially with the uncertainty at the back end of the Reds' rotation.

Antone (groin) will throw a side session Saturday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Antone remains day-to-day while recovering from a right groin strain. If he doesn't experience any setbacks during his throwing session Saturday, Antone could return to Cactus League play soon and should remain on track for Opening Day. Assuming he's healthy to begin the regular season, the right-hander could compete for a spot in the rotation, especially since Sonny Gray (back) doesn't expect to be ready for Opening Day.

Reds manager David Bell continued to label Antone (groin) as day-to-day Wednesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Antone's groin injury will prevent him from making a start this weekend as had been planned, but the Red are optimistic he'll be able to complete a bullpen session. If he escapes the side session without any new discomfort to his right groin, Antone should remain on track for Opening Day.

Antone (groin) will likely throw a side session later this week, and while he will probably miss his next start, he's only going to be set back a few days from his regular schedule, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Even with the couple days of delay, the overall spin for Antone on this injury remains positive. It's still possible that he won't win a rotation spot to begin the season, if the Reds decide they want Michael Lorenzen to start. But Sonny Gray's injury creates another opening in the rotation for the first few weeks of the season.

Antone (groin) expects to make his next Cactus League start, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Antone felt a small tweak in his groin during the third inning of Sunday's spring start against the Padres, but he sounded upbeat after the game and said that he thinks he'll be fine. While the Reds will presumably monitor him over the next few days, it doesn't sound as though Antone's injury will be a long-term issue.

Antone left Sunday's spring game against the Padres due to a mild right groin strain, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Antone allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out five over 2.2 innings during Sunday's start, but he was unable to complete the third frame due to a groin issue. It's not yet clear whether the injury will force Antone to miss additional time or whether the issue will impact his availability for Opening Day.

Antone threw three scoreless innings against the Rockies on Monday, striking out three with no walks, while allowing two hits.
EDGE Analysis
The difference between this outing and his previous spring training appearance was that Antone started this game, and got to work on his pre-start routine a little more. A report on Friday suggested that Michael Lorenzen is the leading candidate for the fifth starter's job, but Antone continues to make a pretty good case for the role.

Antone struck out five of the seven batters he faced in his spring training debut Wednesday, throwing between 97-to-99 mph on his fastball while mixing in a sharp slider, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "(In the minors) he was a sinker ball pitcher, but 90 miles an hour with good command," Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson said. "Tonight, he was 97 to 99 consistently, just (an) electric fastball and (his) slider was as good as it's ever been."
EDGE Analysis
Antone is in a battle for the Reds' fifth starter job, with Wade Miley presumably the favorite to take the fourth starter's role. It would behoove the Reds to find as many innings for both Antone and Michael Lorenzen, even if one of them doesn't get in the starting rotation to begin the season.

Antone is in a job battle with Wade Miley and Michael Lorenzen for a rotation spot, as the Reds are leaning towards using a five-man rotation, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Reds, like many other teams, have discussed the possibility of a six-man rotation, but for now it looks more likely they'll open the season with a conventional five-man crew. It's going to be a fluid situation for Cincinnati and many other teams, particularly with younger pitchers that need to have their workload monitored.
