The White Sox announced Sunday that Smith will start their March 26 season opener in Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
Coming off a rookie season in which he earned an All-Star nod while pitching to a 3.81 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 29 starts, Smith was the obvious choice to take the hill for the Opening Day game. The 25-year-old righty will be facing off against the organization that drafted him in 2021 before he joined the White Sox after Chicago selected him in the Rule 5 Draft following the 2024 season.

Smith allowed one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk across 3.0 innings in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Guardians.
EDGE Analysis
This marked Smith's second start of spring training, and he worked up to 41 pitches. He threw 25 of those offerings for strikes in a relatively sharp outing. After posting a 3.81 ERA and 1.20 WHP across 146.1 innings in 2025, Smith is a candidate to start on Opening Day.

Smith (7-8) allowed one hit over six shutout innings Sunday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
Smith retired the first 16 batters he faced before giving up a single to Brady House. It was Smith's first quality start since Aug. 30, and he tied his season best with eight punchouts. He gave up one run and struck out 16 batters over 11 frames in his final two starts. The All-Star rookie finished his 2025 campaign with a 3.81 ERA and 145:58 K:BB through 146.1 innings. Smith posted a 3.17 ERA over his final 11 starts of the year.

Smith came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Yankees, allowing one run on five hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out eight.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander only tossed 60 of 93 pitches for strikes, with his inefficiency preventing him from working deeper into the game, but his eight strikeouts tied his season high. Smith hasn't been able to complete six innings in any of his four September starts, posting a 4.95 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB over 20 innings as he alternates bad outings with good ones. He'll try to break that pattern to close out the campaign, as he lines up for one more start on the final day of 2025 on the road against the Nationals.

Smith (6-8) yielded six runs on nine hits and a walk over 4.1 innings Tuesday, striking out seven and taking a loss against Baltimore.
EDGE Analysis
Smith worked through two scoreless frames before things unraveled. He was charged with two runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings before getting the early hook. It was the first time he didn't complete at least five innings since Aug. 1, and he took his first loss since July 6. Smith was 3-0 with a 3.04 ERA over nine starts since that last loss. He's now sporting a 4.06 ERA with a 129:54 K:BB through 135.1 innings. Smith is projected for a road matchup with the Yankees next week.

Smith (6-7) earned the win Thursday over the Rays, allowing four hits and a walk across 5.2 scoreless innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
It's the third win in four starts for Smith, who's posted a 2.25 ERA with a 0.71 WHIP in that span (24 innings). Overall, the rookie right-hander sports a 3.78 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP and 122:53 K:BB in 26 starts (131 innings) this season. Smith will look to keep rolling in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for next week at home against the Orioles.

Smith (5-7) earned the win against the Tigers on Friday, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Smith threw just 53 of 91 pitches for strikes but generated an impressive 15 whiffs and received strong support from the White Sox offense. Though he fell short of a third consecutive quality start, the 25-year-old has now completed at least five innings in six straight outings. He'll carry a 3.95 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 118:52 K:BB across 125.1 innings into a home matchup with the Rays next week.

Smith didn't factor into the decision against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over 6.1 innings.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander carried momentum from debatably his best outing of the season earlier in the week, a seven-inning, one-hit shutout of the Royals, and was sharp again against MLB's highest-scoring offense. Smith retired 10 of his first 11 batters before surrendering a solo homer to Aaron Judge in the fourth inning and later gave up another long ball to Austin Wells in the seventh. Aside from the two mistakes, Smith limited New York to just one other hit while racking up strikeouts. The 25-year-old will take his 3.81 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 112:50 K:BB across 120.1 innings into his next scheduled start against the Twins.

Smith (4-7) earned the win over Kansas City on Monday, allowing one hit and one walk with three strikeouts over seven scoreless innings.
EDGE Analysis
Chicago staked Smith to a 3-0 lead through one frame, and the rookie right-hander rolled with it in arguably his most impressive start of the campaign. Smith was very efficient in needing just 80 pitches (54 strikes) to get through the seven innings, and the only hit he allowed was a Mike Yastrzemski double in the third. The outstanding effort allowed Smith to snap a nine-game winless stretch, a span in which he struggled to a 7.22 ERA and 0-4 record over 38.2 frames. Monday also marked Smith's first quality start since his previous victory, which came June 10 against Houston.

Smith allowed four earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings Tuesday against Atlanta. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was burned by the long ball, allowing a pair of two-run home runs to account for all four of his earned runs. While that derailed his outing, he still managed to generate a solid 14 swinging strikes across 101 pitches. This also marked Smith's longest outing since June 10, a span of eight appearances.
