Smith came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the Tigers, allowing two hits and three walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander put together one of his stingiest performances of the season, although it wasn't exactly efficient as he needed 92 pitches (56 strikes) to record 15 outs. Smith wasn't rewarded for his efforts however, as the White Sox offense managed only two hits on the afternoon. Smith has looked good since returning from an ankle injury at the beginning of August, giving up four runs in 14.1 innings (2.51 ERA) with a 17:8 K:BB over three starts, but all three resulted in no-decision. He'll look for his first win since June 10 in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Atlanta.

Smith did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Mariners. He allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out eight over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Randy Arozarena's two-run homer in the third inning accounted for both of Seattle's runs against Smith, who was impressive otherwise in his second start back from the IL, logging a career-best eight strikeouts. Overall, the 25-year-old Smith sports a 4.22 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 93:42 K:BB through 20 starts (96 innings) this season. He's currently slated to face the Tigers at home in his next outing.

Smith settled for a no-decision after throwing 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out four, during Friday's 6-3 win over the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
In his return from the injured list, Smith made it only 4.1 innings, throwing 79 pitches. His last time throwing was a 55-pitch bullpen, so the lack of length can likely be explained away by that on this occasion, but it's still been a pattern of the 25-year-old throughout the season, especially lately. He's currently in the midst of a six-start streak of not making it through five innings. The right-hander has a 3-7 record with a 4.25 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 91 innings, and he is slated to face the Mariners on the road his next time out.

The White Sox reinstated Smith (ankle) from the injured list to start Friday's game against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
After spraining his ankle during the All-Star break, Smith will return from the injured list to make his first start of the second half versus the Angels, who have turned in a .738 OPS since the beginning of July. The 25-year-old righty reached 55 pitches during a bullpen session last weekend, so the White Sox may limit the number of pitches he throws during his first start back.

Smith (ankle) threw a 55-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. "Yeah, it felt good to be back on the bump," the right-hander said after the session. "The soreness is pretty much gone. I threw a bullpen the other day and it felt pretty good. Today, I didn't feel anything."
EDGE Analysis
Smith faced a few big-league hitters and simulated throwing three innings. He'll set to throw another bullpen session, and the White Sox are hoping he'll be ready to rejoin the rotation before the end of the month without needing a rehab assignment.

The White Sox placed Smith on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to a left ankle sprain.
EDGE Analysis
It's not clear when Smith hurt his ankle, though the move is retroactive to July 16 -- one day after the All-Star Game, during which the rookie hurler threw 10 pitches over one-third of an inning. With Smith landing on the IL, Chicago recalled reliever Wikelman Gonzalez from Triple-A, but it's uncertain who (if anybody) will slide into the rotation in the short term. The White Sox have opted for bullpen games on a few occasions this season and could go that route again until Smith is ready to return, which won't be until the beginning of August at the earliest.

Smith didn't factor into the decision in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Guardians, giving up two runs on two hits over three innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
Named to the AL All-Star team as the only representative for the White Sox, Smith got the hook after only 46 pitches (31 strikes) with the score tied 2-2, as per Jack Ankony of SI.com, the team is making it a priority to manage the rookie's workload. Both the runs off the right-hander came on second-inning solo shots by Daniel Schneemann and Angel Martinez, the first time all season that Smith has been taken deep multiple times in a start. Through his first 86.2 big-league innings, Smith sports a 4.26 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 81:37 K:BB -- the most he's ever worked in a professional season is 94.1 innings, which he tossed last year in the Brewers' system before being selected by the White Sox in this past winter's Rule 5 Draft.

Smith (3-7) yielded five runs on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against Colorado.
EDGE Analysis
Smith served up a leadoff shot to Mickey Moniak in the first inning and allowed another run in the second. Smith then worked through a pair of quick frames before the Rockies plated four more runs in the fifth inning, with three being charged against the right-handed rookie. He posted a 2.37 ERA through his first 13 starts of the year but now owns a 4.20 ERA across 83.2 frames. Smith has been tagged with 22 runs (21 earned) in just 15.1 innings over his last four appearances, leading to four consecutive losses. He'll look to snap the streak in his next outing, which is projected to be at home against the Guardians.

Smith (3-6) allowed six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six over 4.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was no match for the Dodgers, giving up three runs in the first inning and never really settling in that well. He's now lost three straight outings, giving up 17 runs (16 earned) over 11 innings in that span. For the season, Smith has a 3.86 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 74:35 K:BB through 79.1 innings over 16 starts, but it appears the success he found earlier in the year is drying up quickly. His next start is projected to be at Colorado this weekend.

Smith (3-5) suffered the loss in Monday's game against Arizona, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks over two innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
The Chicago right-hander labored through this 64-pitch appearance and surrendered five earned runs for the second consecutive start. Smith allowed the first two runs on a double by Josh Naylor in the first inning and then conceded a three-run homer to Pavin Smith in the second. Before this string of five-run outings, Smith sported an impressive 2.37 ERA, which has now bloated to 3.38 through 74.2 total innings. The 25-year-old currently lines up to make his next start against the Giants at home this weekend.
