Baz (3-0) earned the win Friday against the Padres after allowing four hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
After giving up a season-high five runs in his last start versus the Yankees, Baz bounced back in a big way Friday. The right-hander scattered four singles, matching a season high in innings pitched while turning in his fourth outing this year with at least six frames and two runs allowed or fewer. Baz holds an outstanding 2.45 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 36:9 K:BB across 29.1 innings in 2025, and he has a favorable matchup against the Royals in his next scheduled start. Kansas City ranks last in MLB in home runs as a team (12).

Baz did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 10-8 extra-inning win against the Yankees, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts over 3.1 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Baz entered Saturday with three straight quality starts but couldn't escape the fourth inning in his shortest outing of the season. He struggled with command, generating just eight whiffs on 83 pitches while issuing four walks for the second time in four starts. The 25-year-old will carry a 3.22 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB across 22.1 innings into a road matchup with the Mariners next weekend.

Baz (2-0) earned the win Monday versus Boston, striking out 11 over six one-run innings. He allowed two hits and no walks.
EDGE Analysis
Baz was utterly dominant in this 98-pitch outing, generating an incredible 17 whiffs to set a new career best in Ks at 11. The only blemish on the right-hander's performance was a solo shot hit by Kristian Campbell in the third inning. Baz now sports a 1.42 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 27:4 K:BB across 19 innings. The 25-year-old faces another tough lineup in his next start, currently projected to be against the Yankees at home this weekend.

Baz will no longer start Sunday's game against Atlanta as planned and will instead make his next turn through the rotation Monday versus the Red Sox in Tampa, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rays are in the midst of a busy period in their schedule, so the team has elected to temporarily add a sixth man to the rotation. Joe Boyle was recalled from Triple-A Durham and will take the hill Sunday, and he will either shift to the bullpen or head back to the minors after the game. Baz now lines up for two starts during the upcoming week, with his second turn potentially coming next Saturday at home versus the Yankees.

Baz allowed two runs on three hits and four walks over seven innings in a no-decision Tuesday. He struck out six during the loss to the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Baz faced a few threats, but the lone blemish on his outing was Kyren Paris' two-run shot in the second inning. Baz threw 58 of 96 pitches for strikes but generated only eight whiffs. He forced 13 swinging strikes in his first start of the season. Baz is sporting a 1.38 ERA with a 16:4 K:BB through 13 innings. His next outing is lined up to be at home against Atlanta this weekend.

Baz (1-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Pirates after tossing six scoreless innings while allowing seven hits and striking out 10.
EDGE Analysis
Baz showcased ace stuff with the first double-digit strikeout game of his big-league career. His fastball averaged 97 MPH and touched 100.4, and his curveball was extremely effective with a 50 percent whiff rate. Baz ended 2024 with a 2.34 ERA and 0.82 WHIP over his final eight starts and could be in for a breakout campaign if he stays healthy. He's lined up to start next in the series opener against the Angels next Tuesday.

Baz was happy with his outing Thursday against the Nationals despite allowing four earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks across 4.1 innings, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Baz was hit hard early, as he allowed two singles and a homer to the first three batters he faced. He managed to settle in from there, and more importantly, both he and manager Kevin Cash were happy with the shape and execution of his pitches. Baz has allowed 10 earned runs with a 4:5 K:BB across 9.1 innings this spring, though there haven't been signs of panic from either he or the team.

Baz threw three scoreless innings while striking out two, walking one and allowing two hits in Sunday's Grapefruit League game.
EDGE Analysis
The outing was Baz's spring debut, and he threw 50 pitches -- 33 of which went for strikes. His velocity was also excellent, as he hit 100.6 mph with his first pitch of the game, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Baz will presumably be in the big-league rotation to begin the season, though Topkin did note the team has not committed to its five starters at this point in spring.

Baz and the Rays avoided arbitration Thursday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.45 million deal, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
EDGE Analysis
Baz was limited to 14 starts with Tampa Bay in 2024 after spending the early part of the season completing his recovery from September 2022 Tommy John surgery as well as an oblique injury that cropped up during spring training. Once he joined the big-league rotation in early July, Baz struggled to regain his pre-surgery velocity but achieved strong results nonetheless, posting a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 79.1 innings. Though Baz needed a .229 BABIP and a 9.6 HR/FB% to achieve the shiny ERA, now that he's further removed from elbow surgery, there's reason to hope that the 25-year-old can improve upon his 21.6 K% to help stave off the ERA correction that might otherwise be headed his way in 2025.

The 25-year-old made a successful return from Tommy John surgery this season with a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 14 starts. Baz finished on a tear with a 2.34 ERA and 0.82 ERA in his last 50 innings.
