Rockies agreed to terms with outfielder Seth Smith on a one-year, $2.415 million contract. Smith, who hit .284/.347/.483 with 15 homers in 476 at-bats last season, was eligible for arbitration for the first time. The Michael Cuddyer signing has left no room in the Colorado outfield for him, and expectations are that he'll be traded prior to Opening Day.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that earlier this winter the Rays considered trading for outfielder Seth Smith and then flipping him to the Reds in exchange for catcher Ryan Hanigan. It would make sense, as the Reds are looking for outfield help and the Rays need a solution at catcher. It's not clear at this point, though, if the moves could still possibly go down or if discussions took place but didn't really go anywhere. If the Reds did move Hanigan, they could install Devin Mesoraco as their everyday catcher.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that trade talks between the Rockies and Braves stalled when the teams could not agree on which pitching prospect Colorado would send along with Seth Smith for Martin Prado. This comes on the heels of a report by Troy Renck of the Denver Post on Thursday morning which said the Braves' interest in Smith had cooled. However, the 29-year-old outfielder has also drawn interest from the Athletics, Mariners, Mets, Indians and Red Sox. The Rockies are hoping to get a fourth starter or a second baseman in return. Smith, who is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, batted .284/.347/.483 with 15 homers, 59 RBI and an .830 OPS in 2011.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that Seth Smith is drawing trade interest from the Mariners, Athletics, Braves, Mets, and Rays. The Rockies have shopped Smith throughout the winter, but he's even more expendable following the signing of Michael Cuddyer. The Braves might be the best match of the teams mentioned by Morosi, but the Rockies would likely have to include a minor leaguer or two to pry someone like Martin Prado away. Smith batted .284/.347/.483 with 15 homers, 59 RBI and an .830 OPS this past season and figures to make close to $3 million in arbitration.

The Mariners are interested in the Rockies' Seth Smith, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com. However, it's not clear if the two clubs are currently discussing a deal. The Rockies recently offered Smith to the Braves in exchange for Martin Prado. Smith, 29, batted .284/.347/.483 with 15 homers, 59 RBI and an .830 OPS over 533 plate appearances this season, but has traditionally struggled away from Coors Field and against left-handed pitching.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have offered Seth Smith to the Braves in exchange for Martin Prado. The Braves like Smith, but they want more for Prado. Thus far, the Rockies have refused to include young outfielders Charlie Blackmon or Tim Wheeler along with Smith in a package for Prado, but perhaps they'll eventually change their mind. Smith is a career .290/.364/.518 hitter against right-handers but has struggled against southpaws.

The Braves have reportedly expressed interest in trading for outfielder Seth Smith. The clubs have yet to formally exchange names but Smith could fit in a platoon for the Braves if they were to shop Martin Prado. The Post speculates that Charlie Blackmon would also be an attractive piece given the Braves desire to find a center fielder of the future.

Seth Smith went 3-for-5 with a pair of walks in Colorado's 19-3 drubbing of Houston. Smith also scored twice. Despite being homerless since August 23, he's wrapping up another respectable season with a .283/.346/.484 batting line.

Seth Smith hit a two-run homer and stole his sixth base of the season in Sunday's win over the Dodgers. Smith cooled off badly after putting together a hot first three months. Still, he is still flashing enough power to be viable in fantasy leagues. He has six homers and 10 RBI in 20 August games.

Seth Smith went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Colorado's 4-3, 10-inning loss to the Phillies on Monday. He took Cole Hamels deep in the second inning. Smith's ninth home run of the season was his first in 35 games. Coming off a July that saw him hit .233/.287/.356, Smith should be considered a tenuous start for NL-only league players for the time being.
