Though the Mets are considering assigning the struggling Kodai Senga to the minors rather than having him take his normal turn through the rotation this Sunday in Cincinnati, Manaea won't be in the mix to fill in for Senga in the series finale versus the Reds. Manaea most recently took the hill for Monday's 10-8 win over the Tigers, lasting just 3.2 innings while allowing five earned runs on eight hits and one walk. After returning from the 60-day injured list in mid-July, Manaea looked strong through his first four starts of the season with the Mets, but the southpaw's performance has taken a dramatic turn for the worse ever since. Although Manaea owns a strong 59:9 K:BB over 45 innings, his 5.60 ERA makes him a risky fantasy starter for his next scheduled start against the first-place Phillies.

Manaea will be looking to further improve on his 5.01 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 53:8 K:BB in his next appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for this weekend versus the division-rival Marlins.

Manaea fanned a season-high eight, but he permitted at least four runs in his fourth consecutive start after giving up four runs across his first four appearances in 2025. The left-hander has also yet to pitch at least six frames in any of his first eight outings, and he's watched his ERA for the season soar from 2.08 on July 28 to 5.15 following Thursday's showing. Manaea does have a strong 1.12 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB across 36.2 innings, which do offer some reasons for optimism ahead of a difficult assignment against the division-rival Phillies next week.

The veteran southpaw may have been lucky to limit the damage as much as he did, as four of the six hits off him went for extra bases, including homers by Mitch Garver and Cal Raleigh, and Seattle wound up setting a club record with nine doubles on the night. After giving up a single run in four straight starts after making his season debut July 13, Manaea has crashed back to earth in a hurry, getting tagged for 13 runs in 14.2 innings over his last three outings, albeit with an encouraging 15:3 K:BB. He'll try to get back on track in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week against the Nationals.

His next outing is slated for this weekend against the Brewers, who boast a .799 OPS versus left-handed pitching since the start of July.

Manaea allowed one run on three hits and struck out four without walking a batter over five innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday.
