Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have some interest in free agent Ryan Theriot. The Rockies are currently projected to have some combination of Jonathan Herrera, Chris Nelson and D.J. LeMahieu at second base next season, but they are also considering some more experienced alternatives. Theriot, 32, was non-tendered by the Cardinals earlier this month after batting just .271/.321/.342 with one home run, 47 RBI, four stolen bases and a .662 OPS over 483 plate appearances this past season. The level of their interest isn't clear and it's not known whether negotiations have actually taken place.

Cardinals non-tendered INF Ryan Theriot. As expected, especially after the Cardinals agreed to a two-year deal with Skip Schumaker. Theriot, 32, batted just .271/.321/.342 with one home run, 47 RBI, four stolen bases and a .662 OPS over 483 plate appearances this past season. The Astros are among the teams who could have interest now that he's a free agent.

According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Astros could pursue Ryan Theriot if the Cardinals decide to non-tender him. The Cardinals are reportedly not satisfied with Theriot's defense and are committed to Daniel Descalso as their starting second baseman next season. The fact that they recently selected Erik Komatsu in the Rule 5 draft also indicates his return is unlikely. In addition to the Astros, Heyman suggests that the Mets, Braves, Reds, Blue Jays and Royals might have interest.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Cardinals are likely to non-tender Ryan Theriot. The Cards were not satisfied with Theriot's defense at shortstop this past year and have committed to Daniel Descalso as their starting second baseman for 2012. Heyman suggests that the Mets, Braves, Reds, Astros, Blue Jays and Royals might have interest.

Ryan Theriot is starting at second base and hitting leadoff for Friday's Game 7 of the World Series. We figured Theriot would get the start against left-hander Matt Harrison, but the bigger news is that he supplanted Rafael Furcal in the leadoff spot. It's not a surprise, though, as Furcal has really scuffled during the series. He's down to the No. 7 spot in the order. Allen Craig, as expected, is starting in left field for Matt Holliday and is batting second. Skip Schumaker gets the call again in center field over Jon Jay.

Ryan Theriot is starting at second base Saturday in Game 3 of the World Series against the Cardinals. Nick Punto is the better defensive option, but Theriot is a solid singles hitter against left-handed pitchers and the Rangers are starting southpaw Matt Harrison. Lance Berkman is serving as the Cards' DH and Allen Craig is playing right field.

Ryan Theriot is starting at second base for the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLCS. With Skip Schumaker (oblique) unavailable, Theriot and Nick Punto will share time at second base, and it's Theriot that gets the first shot. Jon Jay is also back in center field after not starting Game 5 of the NLDS.

Following an inspired two-hit performance in Game 2 of the NLDS, Ryan Theriot collected four singles and stole a base in Tuesday's Game 3 loss to the Phillies. To put this in perspective, Theriot's last multi-hit game came on August 28. The career .282 hitter has batted seventh each of the last two games. But keep in mind that he led off in 87 games this year. While Rafael Furcal was acquired to set the table, don't be surprised if manager Tony La Russa shuffles his lineup facing elimination on Wednesday.

Ryan Theriot smacked a pair of doubles, scored two runs and drove in a run to help the Cardinals beat the Phillies 5-4 on Sunday night and even the NLDS series at 1-1. Theriot also gutted it out after a pair of harsh collisions at second base, the latter of which came in the eighth inning, when Chase Utley took him out to avoid a double-play throw. The Cardinals trailed 4-0 in the second inning and took out starter Chris Carpenter after the third, but were able to rally back in Philadelphia thanks to five unanswered runs scored and six shutout innings thrown by a combination of six relievers. Game Three is scheduled for Tuesday in St. Louis, with Jaime Garcia squaring off against Cole Hamels.
