Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Roy Oswalt might still be unsigned because teams are balking at his high asking price.
Rosenthal says the Dodgers checked in on Oswalt but found the price -- reportedly a pro-rated $7.5 million -- to be "excessive." "I'm not sure it's the same price for everyone, but I think he is looking for the biggest payday," said one exec from a team with interest in Oswalt. "In the winter, proximity to home was most important. Now, it seems like it's dollars." Oswalt has thrown for the Phillies, Red Sox, Rangers and at least one other team within the past two weeks.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Orioles have right-hander Roy Oswalt on their "radar."
Oswalt was hoping to sign with the Cardinals or Rangers, but neither team has expressed serious interest and we're now a quarter of the way through the 2012 season. So the free agent veteran is apparently beginning to consider other clubs. The Red Sox and Phillies are also thought to have some level of interest.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the "full expectation" among some rival executives is that Roy Oswalt will sign with the Rangers.
It's a logical fit now that Neftali Feliz (elbow) is on the disabled list, but Olney was told that Oswalt may be attracted to the Rangers because of his ties with Nolan Ryan and Greg Maddux and the team's proximity to his home in Mississippi. The Rangers reportedly watched Oswalt throw last week, as did the Red Sox and Cardinals, but they have yet to make a formal offer.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have not discussed a contract with Roy Oswalt.
Oswalt is said to have worked out for the Red Sox recently, but there was apparently no discussion of a deal. The 34-year-old right-hander has begun to get tuned up and should be ready to sign somewhere soon. He posted a 3.69 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 93/33 K/BB ratio in 139 innings (23 starts) last season.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels wouldn't rule out a pursuit of Roy Oswalt following the injury to Neftali Feliz (elbow).
Feliz is likely out at least until the All-Star break, and it's possible he might not be ready to start when he does return. The Rangers will fill his spot with Scott Feldman for now, but they're not committed to him long-term. Oswalt threw for the Rangers last Friday and reportedly would like to sign on with someone soon.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports free agent Roy Oswalt worked out for the Rangers on Friday.
According to Rosenthal, the Rangers' stance is the same as it was during the offseason, and they don't appear to have any interest in Oswalt as a starter. The veteran right-hander recently auditioned for the Phillies and Red Sox, and will have at least one more meeting with another club. Oswalt, of course, is only expected to sign with a team he thinks has a chance to win the World Series.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Roy Oswalt could possibly sign somewhere within the next week and pitch for that team by mid- to late-June.
Rosenthal reported earlier Friday that Oswalt has already auditioned for the Phillies and Red Sox recently and has scheduled sessions with two other teams. The veteran right-hander will, not surprisingly, only sign for a team he thinks has a chance to win the World Series, though it sounds like he'll be open to pitching far away from his Mississippi home. Rosenthal says the Tigers and Yankees are not among the teams pursuing Oswalt.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Roy Oswalt threw a bullpen session for the Phillies last week and the Red Sox this week near his home in Mississippi.
Rosenthal also says he's scheduled to throw for two other teams, as well. One source told Rosenthal that Oswalt "appeared to be in good shape" but was "more in spring-training mode than mid-season form," which is not surprising. Assuming Vance Worley's elbow injury is indeed minor as the Phillies have said, it would appear that the Red Sox would be a better fit for the veteran right-hander. But, Oswalt might prefer the familiarity with the Phillies. Scott Miller of CBSSports.com says Oswalt will pitch only for a World Series contending club and wants to do so by June.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox and Cardinals are "again reaching out" to free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt.
According to Rosenthal, Oswalt has been throwing bullpen sessions every other day in order to keep his arm in shape. He fully intends on pitching for someone this season, and it sounds like Boston and St. Louis are still interested in him. The Red Sox have an obvious need in their rotation, while the Cardinals could need him if they prefer to move Lance Lynn back to the bullpen.

Angels GM Jerry Dipoto told reporters Saturday that his club is not in pursuit of Roy Oswalt.
"I can't qualify for everything you hear," Dipoto said. "But I can say that we're quite happy with the way our starting pitchers have thrown this spring and the way they've developed." Garret Richards appears likely to open the season as the Angels' fifth starter, and Jerome Williams will be an option for that role as well once his hamstring strain heals.
