Ohlendorf opted out of his minor league contract with the Royals on Monday, ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ohlendorf's decision means the Royals have 48 hours to either add him to the active roster or grant him his release. Ohlendorf is a journeyman who struggled early in camp, but he tossed a scoreless frame in each of his last five appearances, so the Royals will at least have some thinking to do.

Ohlendorf signed a minor league contract with the Royals on Thursday, Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Royals signed a trio of major league vets on Thursday, inking Clint Barmes, Brian Duensing, and Ohlendorf to minor league deals. There's no word yet on whether those contracts include invites to the Royals' major league camp, however. Ohlendorf made 21 relief appearances with the Rangers last season, working a 3.72 ERA with 19 strikeouts and seven walks.

Ohlendorf's contract was purchased from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old journeyman should handle low-leverage situations out of the Rangers' bullpen down the stretch.

Ohlendorf (groin) threw a simulated game Tuesday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Ohlendorf is eligible to return from the disabled list Friday, but he probably won't be ready for at least a couple more weeks. Once healthy, he could be a decent source of holds, although saves will likely be tough to come by.

Ohlendorf was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday with a strained right groin, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Ohlendorf went unused in the Rangers' last three games, so he'll be eligible to return from the DL on June 19 if recovered from the groin injury by that time. The Rangers called up Spencer Patton from Triple-A Round Rock to replace Ohlendorf in the bullpen.

Ohlendorf navigated around a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth on Sunday to earn his first win of the season, as the Rangers won the game in the bottom of the inning.
The righty has been reliable for the most part in his eighth inning role, but still sports a hefty 4.05 ERA due to a couple of rough outings. As long as he's not seeing any save chances in the Rangers' new "matchup bullpen," Ohlendorf can remain on the waiver wire.

Ohlendorf allowed one run on one hit, walking one and striking out two in the ninth inning to record his first save as the Rangers outlasted the Yankees 10-9 Friday night.
Just called up from Triple-A Round Rock five days ago, Ohlendorf was called upon to close out a game that was in danger of slipping away. The Rangers' bullpen had allowed three runs in 1.1 innings allowing the Yankees to close within two. With new closer Shawn Tolleson unavailable having saved the last two, Ohlendorf allowed a one-out solo home run to Mark Teixeira before finishing the game. He is unlikely to see many more save opportunities in the foreseeable future.

Ohlendorf's contract was purchased from Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
He'll take over the roster spot of Kyuji Fujikawa, who was designated for assignment Sunday in a corresponding move. Ohlendorf last appeared in the majors in 2013 with the Nationals as a spot starter and long reliever, producing a 3.28 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 60.1 innings. He'll likely see low-leverage duty out of the Rangers' bullpen.

Ohlendorf (groin) has been activated off the disabled list Wednesday and will join Triple-A Round Rock, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Ohlendorf had been dealing with a mild groin strain since the end of March, but he appears to be back to full health. He'll start his year in the minors, but could be in line to join the big league team before long if he's able to get through some Triple-A appearances without any issues.

Ohlendorf has been diagnosed with a mild groin strain and he will start the year in Triple-A, the Fort Worth Star Telegram's Jeff Wilson reports.
He has been shut down and would not be an option for Opening Day, otherwise he may have made the team out of camp based on his strong spring. The Rangers expect him to play a role on the major league roster later this season.
