Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said that Rickie Weeks (ankle) took some light batting practice Wednesday.
Good news, but the Brewers are still bringing him along very slowly following a severely sprained left ankle. He is unlikely to return until September.

Rickie Weeks (ankle) was able to take grounders Sunday for the first time since landing on the disabled list.
Weeks was given a 4-6 week timetable when he went down with a severely sprained left ankle on July 27, but he thinks he's ahead of schedule. Realistically, though, he can't be counted on before the end of August, if not later.

Rickie Weeks said Friday that he is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from a severely sprained left ankle.
Weeks, who suffered the injury on July 27, was projected to miss 4-6 weeks. He has been playing catch and jogging in a swimming pool and was walking without a limp before Friday's game. "I can put weight on it," said Weeks. "Everything's going good right now." While he is progressing nicely in his rehab, there's no word when he'll begin running. As such, it's difficult to project an accurate timetable for his return.

Rickie Weeks is walking without pain and using resistance training to strengthen his sprained left ankle.
On Wednesday, Weeks will have missed two weeks of a projected 2-6 week timetable. Though he's doing well, he certainly doesn't seem close to returning. "They're very happy with his recovery so far," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "He's a very tough guy who can play with pain, but sometimes, with an ankle injury like he had, it's not a matter of how a tough a guys is. Those ligaments have to be right before he's able to go out there and do the things he wants, not just running straight, but cutting and stopping."

Rickie Weeks (ankle) is off crutches and has begun walking without a protective boot.
Weeks is refusing to talk to the media about the injury, but it sounds like the early progress has all been positive. "I was surprised," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "He looked good." The second baseman is not expected to return until late August.

Brewers placed 2B Rickie Weeks on the 15-day disabled list with a severe left ankle sprain.
As expected. No surgery is needed, but Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash said Thursday morning that it is a "significant injury" and that Weeks could be out "anywhere from three to six weeks," depending on how quickly he recovers. You can bet the Brewers will be on the hunt for some infield help in the coming days.

Rickie Weeks is expected to miss 3-6 weeks with a severe sprain of his left ankle.
The good news is that no surgery is needed, but this is still a severe blow for a team with designs on the postseason. The Brewers have Craig Counsell starting at second base on Thursday, but he is hitless over his last 38 at-bats. Brewers GM Doug Melvin is going to have to go out and get some help.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Wednesday that Rickie Weeks (ankle) is headed for the disabled list.
Weeks was pulled from Wednesday night's game against the Cubs after suffering an ugly left ankle injury on a play at first base. Initial X-rays were negative, but the Brewers believe he may have suffered ligament damage and sent him to a local hospital to undergo a range of tests. More information should be made available on Thursday.

Though an X-ray on Rickie Weeks' ankle came back negative, Brewers owner Mark Attanasio said there is concern that the second baseman might have a ligament sprain.
Uh oh. It's possible ligament damage could be as bad or even worse than a fracture would have been. But, it's just speculation at this point, so we'll wait until Weeks undergoes a battery of tests at a Milwaukee hospital. Obviously, it would be an enormous blow to the Brewers' playoff hopes if Weeks is sidelined for a significant amount of time.

Rickie Weeks left Wednesday's game in the second inning with a left ankle injury.
Weeks landed awkwardly on the first-base bag after beating out an infield single and had to be helped off the field. Replays showed that he badly turned the ankle and he was unable to put any weight on the foot while being escorted to the dugout. Hold your breath, Brewers fans.
