After picking up starts in five of the Athletics' first seven games out of the All-Star break, Davis will ride the bench for the second straight contest with rookie Jaycob Brugman manning center field. It's expected that Brugman will see most of the reps at the position in the second half as the Athletics evaluate their younger talent, but Davis should at least stick in the lineup against left-handed pitching.

Davis went 2-for-3 with with two walks, a stolen base and two runs in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Mets.

The veteran outfielder was the embodiment of a top-of-the-order disruptor, setting up a pair of RBI opportunities for Marcus Semien while generating his third straight two-hit effort. Davis seems to have rediscovered his stroke at the plate in July, as he's already raised his average 19 points to .232 partly on the strength of five multi-hit efforts.

Davis went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Rays. He was also caught stealing on his lone attempt and picked off once as well.

EDGE Analysis

While he had a rough day on the base paths, Davis made up for it with his second consecutive two-hit effort and third overall in his last four starts. The veteran outfielder is in the midst of his best month of the season at the plate, with Wednesday's production bringing his monthly line to .306/.359/.417 over 39 plate appearances.

EDGE Analysis

Davis has picked up starts in nine of the Athletics' last 11 games, but that run of regular playing time could come to an end with Jaycob Brugman (illness) rejoining the lineup. The Athletics' trade of relievers Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson to the Nationals on Sunday only further confirms that the team has no visions of contending in 2017, so it's expected that veterans like Davis will be phased out in the second half, if not dealt elsewhere. Expect Khris Davis, Brugman and Matt Joyce to comprise the team's outfield more often than not.

Davis was a late addition to the lineup once Jaycob Brugman came down with the stomach flu, and the veteran outfielder made the most of his opportunity. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, outings the likes of Friday have been few and far between for the 36-year-old, who is sporting a .216/.275/.326 line that includes just three homers and 13 RBI, along with a career-low .263 ISO.

EDGE Analysis

The 36-year-old finally broke free on the basepaths, as he was able to swipe multiple bases in a game for just the second time this season. He now has 14 stolen bases on the season, though he's still batting an unappealing .211. Davis is expected to return to the bench once Ryon Healy (back) is ready to return to action, but he could start to see more consistent at-bats if continues to flash his speed around the bases.

Davis will start in left field and bat ninth Tuesday against the White Sox, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

EDGE Analysis

Davis will draw his fourth start in five games, but once Ryon Healy (back) is cleared to return to action and slot back in as the club's designated hitter, there may no longer be room in the lineup for the veteran outfielder. With the Athletics sitting at 13 games under .500 ahead of Tuesday's game and eager to evaluate younger players, there's little incentive for manager Bob Melvin to hand everyday at-bats to the 36-year-old Davis, especially while he's hitting .208 on the campaign.

Davis is not in the Athletics' lineup Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

The outfielder is giving away more plate appearances to Jaycob Brugman of late. Oakland continues to work in younger players, and the theme will continue, as evidenced by them designating Stephen Vogt for assignment. Davis, meanwhile, continues to hold value as at least a stash in deep fantasy leagues for his speed alone, but his utility in other fantasy categories continues to dwindle.

With Davis sitting on a .266 on-base percentage for the season and the 27-37 Athletics sitting 16 games out of first place in the AL West entering play Wednesday, it wouldn't be surprising if the 36-year-old was gradually phased out of the lineup in the second half in order to make way for the organization's younger talent.
