Following the acquisition of Arismendy Alcantara, the Reds opted to designate Kivlehan for assignment. During the 2016 season, Kivlehan played 100 games at the Triple-A level for three different organizations. During that time, he posted an underwhelming .254/.302/.416 line. His time in the majors was limited, as he played in just eight MLB games. In said games, he went 4-for-21 (.190) and struck out 11 times.

EDGE Analysis
Kivlehan will head to his fourth team of the year and finish out the season with the Reds. He made his big league debut with the Padres in October and hit a home run, but also posted a 2:9 BB:K over five games. He can play both the infield and outfield, so he will provide depth at a couple positions for the Reds the rest of the way.

EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old was making his second Major League start, and he collected two hits for the second time in as many tries. Kivlehan was slotted seventh in the batting order, but he could move up if he continues to get on base at a .750 clip much longer.

The Padres acquired Kivlehan off waivers from the Mariners earlier this month. He plays left field, first base and third base, so he should slot into a utility role for San Diego over the rest of the season. Kivlehan, 26, has struggled a bit at Triple-A this season (.711 OPS) and has the look of a fringe major leaguer.

Kivlehan was designated for assignment on Monday after posting a .293/.327/.522 slash line over 43 games with Seattle's Triple-A affiliate. After remaining on waivers for several days, he was scooped up by San Diego and subsequently optioned to Triple-A El Paso. The 26-year-old has produced solid numbers in the upper levels of the minors and could get an opportunity to make his major league debut later this season.

Kivlehan fared much better with the Mariners' Triple-A Tacoma affiliate than he did with the Rangers' Triple-A Round Rock club, slashing .293/.327/.522 in 43 games compared to .184/.252/.262 with Round Rock. However, the Mariners decided to swap him out with a more versatile defender (one who can play second base and center) in Mike Freeman from Arizona. Kivlehan will now be subjected to waivers.

EDGE Analysis
The Mariners cleared a spot on the 40-man roster for Kivlehan by placing reliever Evan Scribner (back) on the 60-day DL, but it's uncertain if the utility man will join the big-league club anytime soon. The 26-year-old was holding down a putrid .184/.252/.262 slash line at Triple-A Round Rock prior to the trade.
