Nick Markakis (wrist) said Friday that he is hopeful he'll be able to return to the team during their nine-game homestand beginning on June 22. The early estimate for his return was pegged at 3-6 weeks, so this updated timetable seems plausible. Markakis vows to work feverishly to return as quickly as his body will allow him to. He will remain with the team over the weekend before revisiting the doctor on Monday to remove the gauze and bandaging on his hand.

Orioles placed OF Nick Markakis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 30, with a broken right hamate bone. Markakis underwent successful surgery on his hand Friday morning and is expected to be sidelined 3-4 weeks. Ryan Flaherty started in right field Wednesday, but Bill Hall should see some time in the outfield, as well.

Nick Markakis underwent successful surgery Friday to remove the hamate bone in his right hand. Markakis will stay in extended spring training in Sarasota to rehab. He's expected to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks, which seems to be an aggressive timetable given that Pablo Sandoval had the same procedure and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.

Nick Markakis broke the hamate bone in his right hand and will undergo surgery Friday morning. Markakis originally suffered the injury on a slide into second base 7-10 days ago, but the complete break occurred when he was swinging the bat Tuesday night. He'll be sidelined for around three to four weeks, which likely rules him out for June. Xavier Avery is a potential replacement in right field, but Lew Ford, Jai Miller and Jamie Hoffman will also likely be considered.

X-rays on Nick Markakis' right wrist came back negative. Markakis went for X-rays after tweaking his wrist during his final at-bat on Tuesday. While it doesn't appear to be a major concern, he is scheduled to see a hand specialist in Florida on Thursday. We're guessing the O's will rest him Wednesday.

Nick Markakis went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers. The solo blast was his fourth of the season. Markakis entered the game with just one hit in his last 18 at-bats, so he needed this showing to get him back on track. He upped his average to .246.

Nick Markakis went 2-for-5 with three RBI in Sunday's win over the Angels. Markakis came through in the clutch in this one, netting a two-run single in the eighth and then a game-winning single in the top of the 10th. They are his first RBI in the last nine games and he still hasn't hit a homer since the second day of the season. Owners should also note that Markakis hasn't topped 15 homers or 12 steals in either of the last two seasons.

Nick Markakis homered, tripled and walked to lead the Orioles past the Twins on Friday. Markakis' homer in his first at-bat was his first to the opposite field since 2008. It's just one day, but it couldn't have gone much better for Markakis owners. As a No. 3 hitter for a pretty good offense in a pretty good park for hitters, he can be a difference maker in fantasy leagues.
