Moreland went 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the Rangers' win over the Royals on Friday night. Spending time between first base and DH with Prince Fielder, Moreland is now competing with Joey Gallo to keep his job once Adrian Beltre returns from a thumb injury. Most likely, Gallo is headed to Triple-A upon Beltre's activation in a few weeks, but a prolonged slump from Moreland might open the door for Gallo to stick around. Moreland is hitting .295 with a .359 OBP and .504 slugging percentage this season.

Moreland is not in the lineup Saturday against the Red Sox, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. The 29-year-old started 16 straight games after coming off the DL on May 13, but will turn first base over to Adam Rosales on Saturday with lefty Wade Miley on the hill for Boston. With 19 hits -- including four homers -- in 64 at-bats since his activation, Moreland has raised his batting line on the season to .300/.358/.518

Moreland had a big day at the plate on Sunday against the Indians, as he went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI in a 5-1 Rangers win. The home run was only his second of the season, but Moreland is looking much healthier after undergoing a minor elbow procedure and is capable of hitting for average and power when he is form. Keep an eye on him as he continues to start at first base for the Rangers.

Moreland went 2-for-3 with a walk in his return from the disabled list Wednesday against the Royals. Moreland had two singles and a walk in a successful return from the disabled list after surgery to remove bone chips in his left elbow. He was 0-for-11 with six walks in a four-game rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Round Rock.

Moreland (elbow) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. Moreland was expected to rejoin the club Wednesday, and that is now officially the case. The lineup card hasn't been released yet, but he will play first base Wednesday. Jake Smolinski was optioned to make room for him on the 25-man roster.

There's little incentive to rush him back any sooner, with the Rangers facing southpaws Sunday and Monday. After that, the Rangers aren't scheduled to face another lefty all week, which means Moreland may get six consecutive starts against right-handed pitching.

Moreland (elbow) hit in a batting cage Wednesday and reported feeling great, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Moreland is hopeful that he'll be able to take batting practice either Thursday or Friday, then begin a rehab assignment as early as Saturday. Assuming all goes according to schedule over the next few days, Moreland should be in line to rejoin the big league team some point next week.

According to Stevenson, Moreland threw from 75 feet and took 25 swings off of a tee. He hopes to start hitting in a batting cage on Wednesday as his he approaches his estimated return date within the next week.

Moreland will have bone chips removed from his elbow Wednesday and will miss two-to-three weeks, the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports. This has been bothering Moreland for about 10 days, so it will be good to finally get the problem treated. Look for him to be placed on the DL Wednesday with a corresponding move to follow. Prince Fielder will start at first base and the Rangers will mix and match at DH while Moreland is out.
