Mikolas (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Sunday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas was scratched from a simulated game Monday due to shoulder issues and his progress remains slow. If he checks out fine following the bullpen session, he could be cleared for game action soon thereafter, keeping him in the mix for the Opening Day roster, though the Cardinals are likely to remain cautious with him after he missed all of last season due to flexor tendon surgery. While it's a positive that his current injury woes aren't related to that issue, it's still certainly not good to see a pitcher battling arm troubles so early in camp.

President of baseball operations John Mozeliak revealed Wednesday that Mikolas is dealing with shoulder stiffness, but the issue isn't believed to be a long-term concern, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas was scratched from a scheduled simulated game appearance Monday, but until this point, the change had been dismissed as unrelated to any health concern. Mozeliak's comments Wednesday naturally cast a different light, although the team executive added the prognosis from team trainers was positive and the hope was the stiffness was "not something that lingers for a week or two." For the time being, Mikolas still appears set for a side session at some point this coming weekend, although those plans are naturally subject to change.

Mikolas, who was scratched from a scheduled simulated game appearance Monday, won't pitch again until a weekend side session, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports. "I was probably a little early in announcing that he was going to throw in a sim game," manager Mike Shildt said. "We schedule a lot of things, and I mention a lot of times, it's just fluid. Fluid for a lot of different reasons, none of which are overly problematic."
EDGE Analysis
There was some speculation as to whether Mikolas may have suffered a setback with his previously injured flexor tendon when Monday's sim game appearance was nixed, but Shildt explained it was simply part of a strategy to give the veteran right-hander some extra down time between throwing sessions. Mikolas threw to live hitters Thursday, so pushing him back until this coming weekend, when he'll throw a bullpen, will afford him over a week's rest before picking up the ball again.

Mikolas won't pitch in Monday's simulated game as previously scheduled since the Cardinals are showing caution early in camp, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
There was no announcement of any sort of injury, but it's an ominous sign the team is pushing back the outing coming off his first bullpen session of spring training Thursday. Mikolas missed the entirety of 2020 while recovery from surgery on the flexor tendon in his right forearm, so hopefully the Cardinals are simply being overly cautious for his first work against live hitters in camp.

Mikolas threw his first bullpen of camp Thursday, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas missed all of last season while recovering from surgery on his right flexor tendon, a procedure he underwent in late July. Previous reports indicated the Cardinals expected him to go through a normal spring training, and it appears that he is indeed on track for one so far.

Mikolas (forearm) is "full-go" to begin spring training, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas missed the entire 2020 season after undergoing surgery on his right flexor tendon in late July. The Cardinals expected him to begin spring training on a normal schedule, and president of baseball operations John Mozeliak confirmed that the right-hander is fully healthy as pitchers and catchers report Wednesday. Mikolas posted a 4.16 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over 184 innings in 2019 and should begin the 2021 campaign in the starting rotation once again.

Mikolas (forearm) is expected to begin spring training on a normal schedule, Brendan Schaeffer of KMOV News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 32-year-old underwent surgery on his right flexor tendon in late July and missed the entirety of the 2020 campaign, but it shouldn't impact his status entering next season. Mikolas had a 4.16 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 144:32 K:BB over 184 innings during 2019, and he's expected to begin 2021 as a member of the starting rotation.

Mikolas (forearm) was transferred to the 45-day injured list Tuesday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move won't have any effect on Mikolas' return timeline, as he's already been ruled out for the year due to surgery on his right flexor tendon. The move creates a spot on the 40-man roster for the Cardinals to add a player once their season eventually resumes following their COVID-19 outbreak.

Mikolas will undergo surgery on his right flexor tendon and will miss the remainder of the season, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas' forearm issues date back to the end of last season, though he was able to throw throughout summer camp. Notably, the procedure he'll undergo is not Tommy John surgery, so he won't be forced to miss the entirety of the 2021 campaign as well. He's expected to be ready for the start of next season. Daniel Ponce de Leon will take his place in the rotation and will start Wednesday against the Twins.

Mikolas was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right forearm strain.
EDGE Analysis
Mikolas was dealing with a strained right flexor tendon in his forearm heading into summer camp, and the issue appears to have resurfaced. It's unclear how much time he'll miss as a result of the setback. The right-hander was scheduled to make his 2020 debut Wednesday and a replacement starter hasn't yet been named.
