Although the star outfielder hasn't been slashing at his usual level, he's still managed to make his plate appearances count with enough speed mixed in to swipe six bags on the year. If he continues at his pace, he'll reach 20 stolen bases for the fifth year in a row. Meanwhile, he's quietly hitting .294 with nine homers, 26 RBI and 29 runs scored.

The 27-year-old is doing his normal thing to open 2019, but unfortunately, too often he's going deep with nobody on base. He's hit five of his nine homers this year with the bases empty. Yet, Trout is still batting .283 with 25 RBI, 27 runs and five steals in 120 at-bats this year.

The 27-year-old only has two home runs in May and has seen his average dip below .300 early this month, but he still owns an impressive slash line. Trout has walked 35 times and only struck out 21, giving him an impressive .468 on-base percentage. And with fewer recorded at-bats because of all those walks, his eight bombs this year don't look so bad. Case in point, Trout has posted a .575 slugging percentage. He also has a .292 average, 24 RBI, 25 runs and five steals in 113 at-bats.

Trout is now 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts to keep himself on pace for a fourth consecutive season of at least 20 steals. After reaching base three times Tuesday, Trout now owns a .475 on-base average for the season, narrowly edging out the Dodgers' Cody Bellinger (.474) for the best mark in the majors among players with at least 100 plate appearances.

The limited run-producing opportunities are almost entirely a result of the poor talent around him, as Trout has otherwise performed at his usual elite level since signing his record-breaking contract extension in March. He has reached base in nearly half of his plate appearances (.492 OBP) while trimming his strikeout rate to a career-low 11.3 percent.

Upon rejoining the lineup April 15 following a nearly week-long absence due to a groin strain, Trout was limited to designated-hitter duties in his first four games back from the injury. He returned to his usual role in the outfield over the weekend and no longer looks to be bothered by the groin issue, as his theft Monday likely confirms. The injury aside, Trout has been exceptional to begin the season, turning in a 1.211 OPS while striking out in a career-best 12.5 percent of his 88 plate appearances.

Trout will serve as the designated hitter and is hitting second Thursday against Seattle.

While it's good news that Trout is in the lineup yet again, he still hasn't returned to the field since suffering a groin injury. He participated in pregame warmups Thursday with the hope of gaining clearance to man center field, but the Angels will keep him in the designated hitter spot for one more night. The former MVP is expected to start at center field Friday, per J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News.

The Angels could limit Trout's usage in the outfield and encourage him to act conservatively on the basepaths until the groin issue is further in the rear-view mirror, but it shouldn't prove overly detrimental to his fantasy outlook.
