Adolfo (elbow) could be utilized as a pinch hitter or out of the DH spot within the next week during spring games, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Rick Renteria stated that Adolfo is "ready to take some at-bats for us" and that he "feels very good" which is obviously a positive sign following his UCL injury last week. It seems likely that the team will give Adolfo a chance to play through the elbow ailment but could potentially shut him down for Tommy John surgery if necessary. As previously stated by James Fegan of The Athletic, the club is open to trying him out as a designated hitter in the minors this season but ultimately Chicago wants him at full health heading into 2019 and beyond, which will leave a possibility of the procedure on the table throughout the beginning of this season.

Adolfo (elbow) could open the year at designated hitter if he does not undergo Tommy John surgery, James Fegan of The Athletic Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
The White Sox are currently reviewing all possible rehab avenues following Adolfo's UCL sprain during spring training. According to Fegan's report, the team believes he could DH at High-A Winston-Salem without risking further damage to his elbow. Adolfo will take some time off to rest, but if he doesn't show improvement during his recovery period he will likely need to undergo Tommy John surgery, thus ending his 2018 season. We'll have to wait and see how the ligament recovers over the coming days/weeks.

Adolfo has sprained the UCL in his right (throwing) elbow, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
UCL injuries are always scary. A sprained UCL isn't far from a torn UCL, which typically requires Tommy John surgery. For now, that's just the worst case scenario, and Adolfo will get a second opinion to determine the best course of action. Even if he avoids surgery, though, rehabbing from the sprain should take at least six weeks. He has yet to reach Double-A, so he wasn't likely to debut until at least 2019, but if he misses significant time this year his debut could be pushed back a bit.

Adolfo spent his time during the Instructional League rehabbing a fractured knuckle on his left pinky suffered in August, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The injury was the result of a freak accident and ended Adolfo's 2017 season prematurely on Aug. 22, but not before the 21-year-old outfielder put himself on the prospect map. He hit .264 with 16 home runs, 28 doubles and 68 RBI across 112 games for Low-A Kannapolis. Adolfo, an international free agent that signed in 2013, credited the organization's conditioning and strength programs for helping him establish career highs.

Adolfo was added to the White Sox's 40-man roster on Monday to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
EDGE Analysis
A high-profile international signing in 2013, it took Adolfo a few seasons to start to live up to the hype, but he broke out last year in a repeat trip to Low-A. He hit .264/.331/.453 with 16 home runs, but also struck out 31.5 percent of the time. Improving his pitch recognition and patience will be key to his development as he moves to High-A this season.
