Michael Pineda has been diagnosed with a torn labrum in his right (throwing) shoulder and is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery next Tuesday. The official diagnosis is an "anterior labral tear," which won't necessarily end Pineda's season but is still a rather significant injury. The 23-year-old right-hander hasn't made a start for the Yankees since being acquired along with Jose Campos this winter for Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi. Pineda registered a 3.74 ERA and 173/55 K/BB ratio acoss 171 innings as a rookie in 2011.

Michael Pineda will get a second opinion on his ailing right shoulder Wednesday from Dr. David Altchek. Pineda underwent a dye-contrast MRI on Monday but wants a second set of eyes on his shoulder before any sort of diagnosis is revealed. The 23-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched in a game for the Yankees because of lingering shoulder weakness. He was recently shut down at extended spring training.

Michael Pineda (shoulder) will undergo an MRI in New York on Tuesday. Pineda was originally scheduled to undergo a dye-contrast MRI exam on Monday, but it was pushed back to Tuesday due to a scheduling conflict. The 23-year-old right-hander was shut down from an extended spring training game on Saturday due to lingering shoulder weakness.

According to ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand, ''things would have to go perfect,'' for Michael Pineda to contribute before the All-Star break. Marchand is speculating here and not reporting. Yankees GM Brian Cashman said that Pineda will undergo a ''dye-contrast MRI'' on Monday to see if initial exams missed anything last month. At this point, it doesn't sound like Pineda will be a factor anytime soon.

Updating a previous item, Michael Pineda (shoulder) is scheduled to see a doctor Monday to determine the extent of his latest setback. Manager Joe Girardi described the injury as ''not good,'' and ''somewhat significant.'' Pineda was scheduled to pitch two innings Saturday, but was shutdown after 15-pitches with lingering weakness in his right shoulder. His minor league rehab assignment will be put on hold until further notice.

Michael Pineda (shoulder) will throw two innings in an extended spring training game Saturday. If that goes well, he could be cleared to start a minor league rehab assignment. Pineda has been throwing without incident to this point, though we haven't heard any reports on how his velocity has been. He should be ready to rejoin the Yankees rotation sometime in May, barring any setbacks.

Michael Pineda (shoulder) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session in two or three days. Pineda threw 26 pitches in a bullpen session Monday without incident. If all goes well this week, he'll likely go out on a minor league rehab assignment. The Yankees have already written him off for the first month of the season and given the options in the starting rotation (including Andy Pettitte) in the minors, there's little reason to rush him back.

Michael Pineda (shoulder) threw 26 pitches in a bullpen session Monday without incident. It was his first bullpen session since being placed on the disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis. He'll likely require a few rehab starts in the minors before being a realistic option for the Yankees' rotation, so his return isn't considered imminent.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi admitted Friday that it's "safe to say" Michael Pineda (shoulder) won't rejoin the Yankees rotation before May. We assumed as much. Pineda was placed on the disabled list late last month with right shoulder tendinitis, and although it's not considered serious, the Yankees want to keep him in the minors until his velocity and confidence return. Pineda threw 43 soft tosses to pitching coach Larry Rothschild on Thursday and played catch again on Friday. It's not clear when he'll make his first rehab start.

Michael Pineda (shoulder) played catch from a distance of 60 feet Thursday and felt fine. Pineda was placed on the disabled list late last month with right shoulder tendinitis. It's not thought to be a serious issue, but the right-hander displayed diminished velocity this spring and the Yankees want to be sure he's 100 percent healthy before throwing him into the fire. Pineda should be ready to rock by early May.
