Los Angeles Angels right-hander Matt Shoemaker (forearm) has been shut down. "He's stuck in neutral right now," manager Mike Scioscia said. Shoemaker was throwing from 150 feet back on May 2 and at the time felt that a bullpen session was coming soon. Evidently that is not the case. For now, he does not have a timetable to return. Expect Jaime Barria to continue starting in his absence.

Shoemaker has only started one game this year and is coming off a 2017 season where he made 14 starts and pitched to a 4.51 ERA. He is not a viable fantasy option when he returns, outside of very deep leagues.

Shoemaker has been on the DL since April 3 with nerve irritation, but reported 'drastic improvement' about a week ago. Assuming his throwing program goes well, he could be expected back in a month or so. Deep league owners will want to keep him on the radar going forward.

The Los Angeles Angels have released a medical update on right-handed pitcher Matt Shoemaker. The report states that the study performed earlier this week produced no findings of nerve irritation. As such, Shoemaker will undergo a follow-up exam in a few weeks, and will be treated accordingly. Joey Kaufman of the Orange County Register writes that Angels starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker will be undergoing further tests on his injured forearm. The results of an MRI on Shoemaker showed no major elbow trauma, and he is, "scheduled to undergo additional tests next week, including an electromyography and nerve condition study Monday in Los Angeles." There's no official word on how long he will be out, but it seems he won't be back any time soon.

Los Angeles Angels starter Matt Shoemaker is locked into a spot in LA's six-man rotation, despite his struggles so far in spring training. Through three starts, Shoemaker has an ugly 10.80 ERA and has surrendered a staggering five home runs in just 8 1/3 innings. Still, Shoemaker will find himself on the hill every sixth day for the Halos. The right-hander had a 4.52 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in 77 2/3 innings last year and is only draftable in deep-mixed and AL-only formats.
