The Rays will attempt to avoid using Matt Moore on Friday against the Red Sox. Tampa wants to give its top prospect two days of rest after he threw 27 pitches in his major-league debut on Wednesday. With the Red Sox having no shortage of lefty bats, the odds are high that Moore will be called upon to get an important out this weekend.

Matt Moore made his major-league debut on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen in Tampa's loss to the Orioles. He struck out two and walked none. An inauspicious start for baseball's top pitching prospect. Although Moore could potentially have monster value in all formats of fantasy next season, he won't be worth an own for the final two weeks of 2011 unless the Rays decide to give him a start.

Rays purchased the contract of LHP Matt Moore from Triple-A Durham. The Rays announced the promotion on Sunday night then made it official on Monday afternoon. Moore will serve as a long reliever initially but could join the Tampa Bay starting rotation later this month. He registered a sparkling 1.92 ERA and 210/46 K/BB ratio in 155 innings this season between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. The 22-year-old left-hander is widely considered to be baseball's top pitching prospect.

Matt Moore's agent told Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com that his client will pitch out of the bullpen initially. Moore, baseball's top pitching prospect, could move to the rotation later this month if he impresses in relief. The 22-year-old left-hander posted a dominant 1.92 ERA and 210/46 K/BB ratio in 155 innings this season between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. He has immense upside, and is a must-own in keeper leagues.

Top pitching prospect Matt Moore has been told he'll be promoted to the big leagues on Monday. Moore, baseball's top pitching prospect, has presumably not been informed when he will first take the hill for Tampa Bay, though we expect him to pitch out of relief initially. The 22-year-old left-hander registered a superb 1.92 ERA and 210/46 K/BB ratio in 155 innings this season between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. He'll have considerable fantasy value if given a couple starts down the stretch. We know for sure that the Rays will need a spot starter following a September 21 doubleheader with the Yankees, but we'd expect Moore to enter the rotation before that.

Rays pitching prospect Matt Moore tossed a no-hitter for Double-A Montgomery Thursday, striking out 11 in the process. Moore, who was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 15 prospect in the minors coming into the season, has had an utterly dominant year for Montgomery, posting a 2.43 ERA and 0.97 WHIP while tying the Cardinals' Shelby Miller for the minor league lead in strikeouts with 103. The left-hander will turn 22 Saturday and could be ready for a promotion to Triple-A Durham soon.
